Option 4. The only certainty in life is uncertainty.

worse, everything only gets worse forever and it was all f!cked to begin with anyway

personally i'll be very surprised if i'm still alive in 25 years. i expect i've only got another 10-15 years max before a heart attack or cancer or something like that inevitably gets me but of course everyone in my life who ever hurt me will live happy and healthy well into their 90s at least.

Sorry to hear this. It is often difficult to be optimistic about the future, so I can understand why you feel the way that you do.

both, but in a generally upward trajectory.  Why would we think we would be any different than the last 100,000 years of humanity?  We ain't special.

I'm an optimist, but I'm also a realist. Things are going to get worse quick and I doubt I'm going to come out the other side alive. If things get better, I probably won't be around to see it.

Much, much better.  The collapse of the human race is a fallacy.

Overall, we are on our way to being a more peaceful, progressive, egalitarian, and advanced world than we were a hundred years ago.

Our grandkids will be much better off than we are.

from South Pacific:

Quote
I hear the human race
Is fallin' on its face
And hasn't very far to go,
But ev'ry whippoorwill
Is sellin' me a bill,
And tellin' me it just ain't so.

In 25 years, I don't know, but I'm not optimistic. I'm a realist, but I have been called a pessimist. I do agree with most that things generally work in an upward trajectory. However, it is not always a straight line and there have been times when things stagnate or go backwards. I think MLK's quote about the arc of the moral universe applies here or at least has a proper analogy in this case.

Hard to say. It will definitely be something if major cities and states are underwater, and the Midwest suddenly experiences a wave of climate migration. Could make our election maps interesting again I guess.

But the United States will not be the only superpower anymore. We've already ceded so much international credibility over the last two decades. A smaller and smaller number of people own most of the wealth. The rise of Big Tech is inevitably going to lead to serious social/economic conflict somewhere down the line, as we are already seeing. People are slowly waking up to all the materialist propaganda they've been fed since the start of the Cold War.

Which is a good thing. The problem is when these same enlightened people live under the mistaken impression that people like Ben Shapiro, Sam Harris, and Bill Maher are deep thinkers who will be the Plato to our society's cave.

....positive.

It has to improve once COVID fades. Looking at trying to get my business more secured into some key relationships. That will take care of everything else.

Not sure, if you take a long view of history things have been getting better over time. In many ways now might be the best time to be alive ever in all of human history with less war and less poverty than there has ever been, and so if that trend continues the future should be an even more peaceful and progressive time.

However there's no guarantee that this trend will continue, global warming hasn't been a issue until now that could cause a reverse of this trend. Also we've only had the ability to exterminate ourselves with nuclear weapons for about 75 years and it seems in recent years we're taking the possibility of nuclear war less seriously than we used to.

So who knows, guess we'll find out...
