The organizational culture of slinging mud and eating their own is one of the CPC's greatest internal weaknesses. Now we're in the "calling other candidates white supremacists" phase of the campaign.

The Poilievre "anglo-saxon" scandal is the dumbest thing ever. First of all, saying "I believe in communicating in plain, simple, anglo-saxon words" is really dumb on Poilievre's part, because who uses the term "anglo-saxon" on a daily basis? It sounded like he was trying to sound overly intellectual/pretentious.

The longer this leadership race goes on, the more egos will be bruised in the CPC, and the more damage this will cause into the next campaign. On the one hand, a quick leadership campaign would have reduced the amount of bruised egos. On the other hand, a quick campaign would have been derided as a coronation, and would lack legitimacy among the members.

Yes, yes, you-know-who united his party after a bitter primary campaign, but the two-party system left the rest of the party with no other choice. As Maxime Bernier and Preston Manning demonstrated, leaving the party is a real threat. There were some rumours during the occupation of Ottawa that some Liberal and Conservative politicians were seeking to form a new centrist party, but nothing came to that. PP winning the CPC leadership after a scorched earth campaign, combined with the usual mid-term blues of the Liberals, might turn these rumours into reality.

Ironically, Maxime Bernier hinted that his new party would be centrist. Only later did it attract the nutcases like flies to rotten meat.

As a Sri Lankan born person I will say that while visible minorities are by no means monolithically socially conservative, especially in CPC/OPC circles there is a strong overlap between minorities and socons.

Brown burnt all his bridges with social conservatives with sex-ed and other things he did. Therefore, it would be very difficult almost impossible for Patrick Brown replicate his 2015 leadership surprise win.

His strategy with visible minorities this time around isn't so much appealing to their often socially conservative views, just more generally networking and addressing niche concerns that you rarely see white politicians do. I mentioned it earlier in this thread, among his promises are things like increasing funding for cricket in Canada and establishing a permanent embassy in Nepal. Like, very specific concerns that bear little relevance to the CPC leadership. I don't know enough about visible minority/immigrant communities (really, South Asians as that seems to be the bulk of his strategy) to know how effective it would be, but this isn't 2015 Patrick Brown

But, a strategy of pandering to niche demographics will risk accusations of intellectual bankruptcy. It's what sunk Andrew Scheer, after all.

Patrick Brown has been kicked out of the race, at the demand of Elections Canada, due to suspected severe breaches of electoral finance regulations.

Correction: the LEOC is referring the matter to Elections Canada for potential violations of the Elections Act. EC can't demand that a candidate drop out, especially in a private club's internal matter.

EC cannot demand it, but they recommended it to the LEOC (and the LEOC had really no choice but the comply, they don't want to be held responsible in any way for legal violations).

Source? Haven't seen anything suggesting EC weighing in.

Also, PP's campaign has weighed in with the most predictable response imaginable, at 4:10:

Prepare the popcorn. Patrick Brown is determined to burn down the party.

In all likelihood, his attempt to burn down the CPC will go about as well as his attempt to burn down the PCPO. You need friends on the inside to burn down a party, which he doesn't have

Perhaps Patrick Brown has no friends within the party. But, his hiring of Marie Henein indicates he thinks this will eventually become a criminal investigation - in which case, he intends to turn the tables and put the party on trial. She wouldn't work on this case, otherwise.
