My position in this AU: Greene and the entire Republican party that supported this coup must be arrested and punished by all means necessary. Violence is legitimate and if the military doesn't act the people should.

Great writing!

a great start however I cannot see any Democrat conceding on such grounds after such a blatant coup.

The midterms are going to be brutal.

The midterms are going to be brutal.

Especially with MTG as the Republican candidate.

You know you're likely dead either way if you concede or you fight, so you fight and hope you win.

Yeah, I went back and changed that headline. It doesn't make much sense from a storytelling perspective to have unilateral deescalation when the opposition so blatantly takes power for themselves.

I should have something new out early this week. I'm hoping to jump between flashbacks and current events over the next few chapters.

Interesting. BTW, how did 2024 turn out? I assume Joe Biden won by enough that Donald Trump couldn’t really contest the results, or that Donald Trumps quest to appoint favorable election oversight officials in Wisconsin, Georgia, Pennsylvania, Arizona, Michigan, Nevada, and New Mexico failed in 2022 for whatever reason.

Would MTG go into office thinking she has a mandate after such a close election?

So, when does the genocide of all non-whites start, because that's the first thing Marjorie Taylor-Greene would want to do.

This really isn't the first time where a conservative said their preferred candidate wouldn't be even a good national candidate let alone win and then either almost or does become a national candidate. In 2008 and 2012, Huckabee and Santorum gave the establishment a run for their money. In 2016, they actually did get the craziest guy in and he WON. In the lead up to 2012, many LDS folks lamented that Romney would never get it.

If Trump endorsed her she would most likely win and see most other candidates drop out

Republicans Rejoice as Democrats Suffer Major Defeat in Midterms

Quote
November 4th, 2026

ATLANTA - Democrats across the country were dealt a series of stinging defeats yesterday, as Republican contenders won a slew of competitive races from coast to coast. The new Republican majority in the House will be the largest since 2014 and the Senate will remain in Republican hands for at least the next two years.

Going into Tuesday night, Democratic consultants were worried about possible warning signs from a number of key constituencies. Internal polls conducted on behalf of Democratic congressional candidates in suburbia revealed a substantial decline in the number of white women who expressed support for the President. Equally worrying was a decline in enthusiasm among core Democratic voters across the country, with numbers among young voters and black voters posting major declines compared to 2024.

However, few could have predicted how sharp the decline would be among Latino voters. A national exit poll produced by Edison Research suggests that Republicans won as much as 46% of Latino voters, including a majority of Latino and Hispanic men. Women who identified as Hispanic or Latino remained solidly in the Democratic camp, but reported far lower enthusiasm for Democratic candidates compared to 2024.

All of these factors, combined with increased Republican turnout across the board, led to substantial Democratic losses. In Georgia, Democrats lost the senate seat held by Jon Ossoff and failed to capture the Governor’s mansion for the seventh consecutive term. In the Midwest, Republicans stormed to victory in Wisconsin, Michigan, and Pennsylvania, seizing all three gubernatorial races for the first time since 2010. Out in the West, Governor Kari Lake (R-AZ) won re-election over her Democratic opponent, and Republicans increased their majority in the state legislature.

At the Federal level, the situation was even more dire for Democrats. Republicans picked up 25 seats in the House of Representatives, bringing their majority to a stunning 244 seats. In the Senate, Republicans gains were more muted, with the Party adding one more seat to bring their majority to 53.

In lighter news for Democrats, the Congressional Progressive Caucus grew by five seats last night, as attrition and primary defeats chipped away at a number of senior Party leaders in the House. All in all, though, there were few positive signs for Democrats in last night’s results.

After yesterday’s result, many Democratic lawmakers expressed their concerns about expanded Republican majorities in crucial state legislatures. Some pointed out that efforts are already underway by some Republican activists to change the way that states appoint electors to the Electoral College. This could potentially tip the balance in a close election.

On the other side of the aisle, Republican leaders stated that they were confident that the next two years would prove to be more fruitful compared to the last Congress. Senior Party members on the Hill privately indicated that they wished to avoid yet another electoral debacle like the one the Party faced in 2024, when former President Trump had strongly pushed for Republicans in the House to overturn President Biden’s reelection victory. The former President passed away on November 27th, 2024, rendering the challenge moot.

Now, Democrats and Republicans must navigate a decidedly post Trump political landscape. The possibility of future battles over electoral legitimacy looms large, even as the midterm campaign itself appears to have concluded without much doubt.

I think this is the prior midterm election showing how we got here.
