Recession doesn't hit before the election and the tickets are Al Gore/Joe Biden (D) vs. John McCain/Joe Lieberman (R). How do you think that turns out?

A dream Democratic ticket... I think Gore/Biden win the election after two terms of a Republican president and Iraq still not going well. Obviously it's not as decisive as actual 2008 was. Actually it would have been hilarious for Al Gore to run against the guy whom he picked as his running mate eight years before.

✓ Former Vice President Albert Arnold Gore (D-TN)/Senator Joseph R. Biden (D-DE): 325 EV. (51.09%)
Senator John S. McCain (R-AZ)/Senator Joseph Lieberman (R-CT): 213 EV. (47.39%)

Having Lieberman on the ticket might've helped McCain in New England. It would've been an interesting mashup. I think Connecticut would've been <60% and possibly within single-digits and New Hampshire might've outright flipped, but I think the rest of the map looks similar, as the MIC vote of NOVA would've kept Virginia from flipping, possibly even letting McCain win a majority in that state. Colorado might've flipped as well since the recession didn't happen yet.

Senator John McCain (R-AZ) / Senator Joe Lieberman (I-CT)
Fmr. Vice President Al Gore (D-TN) / Senator Joe Biden (D-DE) ✓

It's still a big loss with the Republicans going full neocon and alienating social conservatives. Give or take Missouri, but McCain without Palin might do bad enough there to lose it.
