In the devil worship thread and the Maiden vs. Knocked Loose thread, I wrote over 4,777 words trying to explain that, while it's perfectly valid to not enjoy heavy metal I'm general or Iron Maiden specifically, there's  o good faith reason to defend Jerry Falwell and Pat Robertson's attacks on heavy metal, nor is it particularly reasonable to favor being waterboarded over listening to an objectively very talented, accessible, and unique band whose music one does not enjoy, when one could so easily, validly, and justifiably open with the statement "I do not enjoy heavy metal". Sure, I wrote a lot of snark, particularly early on in the first thread, but most of my posts were substantive.

If the only thing BRTD got out of that exchange was the will to make the lamest Virgin/Chad meme I've ever seen with even a slight amount of unironic belief in the power of said meme, then I can only conclude that what so many psychologists have theorized over the years, i.e. that any attempt at an even slightly sincere engagement with BRTD is one of the least productive activities a sentient being can partake in, is wholeheartedly correct.

 If you genuinely think heavy metal bands don't  Have lyrics that are expressly political, you're lost. Metallica, yes iron maiden, and particularly System of a Down among many others. SOAD also can match any emo ban in terms of is in terms of moshing and "sick breakdowns".

I never said that wasn't the case? Re-read my post again.

Also emo bands aren't the ones with moshing and sick breakdowns, that's hardcore bands. But I have yet to hear a metal song with the type of breakdown where the song gets really slow and then the vocalist says something and then it gets a bit heavier and the vocalist repeats it and then it turns into a complete mosh part fest. That seems to be exclusively a hardcore trope.
