Putin has fewer constraints, which means he can act worse in practice.

The one who started the war with 2 neighboring countries. The one who killed thousands of political opponents inside his country and tens of thousands of people in other countries who just wanted to defend their independence.

The guy who keeps occupying Georgia is worse than the guy who claims to have won Georgia.

No doubt Putin is an evil autocrat who aims to restore the Russian Empire. In terms of influence, however, Trump is worse. His legacy on foreign policy and his denialism regarding the climate crisis make Trump one of the worst "leaders of the free world" that ever existed. Besides, consider the corrosive effect of Trumpism in our western liberal democracies. The damage done will survive him

Putin actually did more severe harm to both the country he ruled in and in the world as well. Trump doesn't even has a clue what Bhutan sounds like!/Time in Tokyo is right now Angry  Angry

Yeah. This entire schtick where people try to compare US situations which are trivial compared to much worse stuff isn't funny; it just displays insensitivity and ignorance. Trump might be bad but Putin is a hundred times worse. This kind of reminds me of a thread attempting to somehow compare TX women to women in Taliban Afghanistan. I mean, this isn't even a question, and I'm really unsure what the OP is doing here aside from displaying his own ignorance regarding Putin.

OP should have dvided options by "In US" and "Not in US". I fear Trump might actually beat Putin in the "In US" category, though it's unlikely given a solid 81% have said Putin.

Putin,

Allegedly the world's richest man.

Which highlights the problem.

Yes, but the "Trump is nowhere near as bad as Putin" line ignores agency. Despite everything that is wrong with the US political system, Trump had *much less power* to be bad than Putin.

Surely the multiply sourced rumour that POTUS Trump once seriously wanted to use nuclear weapons is an example of what I am talking about (not to mention starting all-out war with Iran on a whim)

Both are criminals.  Putin has been decidedly more brutal, authoritarian, and illiberal. However, he has also done considerably more to improve his country than Trump has with his, and of course is understandably much more effective and popular among his compatriots.

Putin in one of the easiest votes ever if you had an extremely basic idea of his policies and actions while as Russian Leader.

The thing about Trump is that he doesn't have any underlying ideology, he's driven by ego and easily manipulated by appeals to it. Most of the time that can be very bad, like when he tore apart Obama's progress with Iran or got suckered into promoting bleach as a cure for COVID by MMS. But it can occasionally work in humanity's favor, like that totally unexpected effort toward Korean peace. Putin, on the other hand, is a Machiavelli who'll play people like a fiddle toward his goals. Neither is the worst of the worst, which IMO would be a warmongering supremacist driven by chimerical visions like the characters we saw in the 2000s GOP, but that doesn't make them good either.

Between them, I don't know- you would think Putin would be the one to know when to quit when risking nuclear war, but Trump was the one to exhibit restraint and I'm not so sure about Putin right now. So between that and all his maneuvering that hasn't done much for the Russian people beyond stopping the most obvious absurdities of the Yeltsin years, Putin.

Putin has imprisoned and assassinated journalists and politicians within his country. With the possible exception of Woodrow Wilson, I cannot think of any president that has been guilty of that since Reconstruction. Also if you wanted to characterize Soleimani as a political opponent which is fair, W and Obama are guilty of killing more people, the later of whom drone struck a trauma center for no reason. The number of drone strikes while still too many, decreased under Trump compared to W and especially Obama. It would've been better for Trump to arrest Soleimani if the undeniable evidence that they were planning on attacking the US was true since I am pro-life and drone strikes should be an absolute last resort, but I didn't read the intelligence reports so I cannot draw a fair conclusion.

Trump is actually pretty smart. He was a visionary. For example, his views on building a wall.

That was a great idea, because evidence suggests that they actually work. It’s irrefutable.

When I was in China in 2017, I visited the Great Wall and I didn't see any Mexicans.

Putin by far, as he's jailed and killed his political opponents, has invaded and occupied neighboring countries, has intervened in the elections of other countries, and is generally a threat to the world order that has existed since the end of the Cold War. In contrast to Trump, however, Putin remains generally popular within Russia and clearly has the support of his party's political establishment.
