For further clarification, Romney did not run for president. The primary went similar to OTL, only in this universe, Trump alienated moderates and senior citizens, while Romney won delegates on a write in basis, despite his approval rating being similar to OTL leading to chaos in the aftermath of the RNC decision, as well as a massive boycott and calls of nepotism, since Romney's niece is head of the RNC. While Trump initially was going to let the left-wing split sabotage the Dems chances, the American Party unbeknownst to him officially nominated him and Tucker Carlson on their ticket, a position he gracefully accepted and campaigned hard for, as he did in this timeline. Meanwhile, the RNC delegation which froze Trump out nominated Mike Pence almost unanimously as he was not found to be blamed. Romney did actively campaign for president. When it came to Sanders, a 2016 type of scenario repeated with rumors that the DNC rigged the primaries in favor of VP Biden. In disgust, Sanders resigned from the Democratic party and ran an independent campaign. He was officially nominated by the Green and Socialist parties and chose Elizabeth Warren to be his VP.
