Ideally the United States would do nothing, as this would strike down the morale of certain state department and three letter agency’s morale and—like the fall of Apartheid South Africa—end the covert actions done by fascist proxies and the state in Eastern Europe.

That won’t happen, and it may be for the best in terms of creating ripe conditions for long-term change. By all accounts the Ukrainian, and really most of the former Soviet Union’s, left already operates underground and are more threatened by the current state and it sponsored militias than anything else. The ensuing violence would cut down major powerbrokers allowing for new opportunities there and abroad, given that an invasion of Ukraine is an incredibly dumb idea in the long run for Russia and would lead to more investment in Ukraine against fascists than in internal security suppressing the Left in the rest of the former Soviet Union. The United States and its allies would pour tons and tons of cash wasting it in Ukraine that, like the forest militias in the Baltics, will fail and won’t be spent on internal oppression.

Don’t look at the doom and gloom for something inevitable (here it is really not though), take every moment as an opportunity to take to advance your people.
