Coming from someone who is butt ugly, I can honestly say I have been rejected over and over by employers... and I do believe it's because I'm not "pretty enough" for the job.  And I do think it applies to men as well - men who look like they shop at Vineyard Vines and have that Madison Cawthorn look to them tend to be treated very nicely whereas if you look like Cyrano de Bergerac and you shop at Walmart, you're very likely to be overlooked and past by.

Anyone here ever think that "appearanceism" (I have no idea what to call it) is just as prevalent as "ageism" or any of the other "isms"?

Also, does it also effect anyone's love life?

attractive people have it easier and ugly people have it harder
smart people have it easier and dumb people have it harder
healthy people have it easier and unhealthy have it harder
ambitions people have it easier and lazy people have it harder

All of those things can be adjusted a bit with work, but obviously there are limits with some aspects of some people.  If you look like you got in a fight with the ugly shovel, there ain't much nice hair and clean teeth will do to get you a date with a cheerleader, but doing so might get you a date with that girl in French Club with the bad hair and thin lips, who wouldn't look at you twice if you didn't comb your teeth and brush your hair.  Know your lane and stay in it.

Also, good looking smart go getters are our betters, they should get the good job and they should get to procreate with the other attractive people.

Social Darwinism for the Beautiful and Botoxed.

In the Corporate World, yes. It's all image and LinkedIn, nice photos. You basically want to look like Toto Wolf.

Private business, it depends if you are selling your face - lawyer, consultant, sales. But generally not.

When I came out of University in 1995, the first company I worked for was huge and once a year, they would retrench 8% of the work force.

No unattractive women were made redundant during my first 6 years.

8% multiplied by 6 years meant that in my 7th year, on the 4th floor, the accounts/HR department was full of smokin' hot babes. It was so obvious what was going on.

From my first year of working in 1996, there were two very attractive women (in different fields) I started with, and after 25 years, they are still there. Unsackable hotties.

I think about that sometimes. If I looked like a guy out of a Just For Men ad, would I be more successful?

I have ween mine managers who are 55 years of age fall in love with the HR girl who is 30. The HR girl basically runs the whole site because she has the manger wrapped around her finger because she hasn't had sex with his wife for 7 years.

Success in a company means looking good.

It wasn't successful until I started my own company that I realised I was successful at getting business done and that I shouldn't take large companies opinions seriously.

Are you British?  is this stuff happening over the pond too?! omg.

I'm an ugly man so I wouldn't have a clue.

Well you would know if you think it causes you a distinct lack of success and happiness in comparison

I am not unattractive, but I do know one general theme. Schmoozers in the workplace with big smiles and eye contact with time to influence senior staff tend to do better.

If they are attractive and influential, then this process will lead to faster promotions and management positions.

I'm so ugly I wake up my ancestors at the graveyard.

I'm so ugly that I have never been on a date and I'm 36 years old!

Is that you in your sig?
My sig? ohh oh no, that's actually Eugene Victor Debs, five-time Socialist candidate for President.  The last time being he, um, ran from prison.  (:

I've found people automatically assume I'm an asshole because I'm fairly good looking. They're right but still...

lol I'm sure you're just good looking, and not a butthole.
