Al Gore did surprisingly well in New York State in 2000 against George W. Bush, even winning traditionally Republican-leaning areas like Staten Island and parts of Brooklyn, Queens, etc.

Describe a Bush voter in Bensonhurst in 2000.

This is just wrong. These people - conservatives who voted for the GOP in a competitive election - exist, even if they are scarce in people like Brooklyn. The only explanation I can give is, a conservative Republican. Make what you will of that.
