It's also disappointing that the President and the honorable PPT are not willing to work against this dangerous amendment, instead, making only meager efforts to secure the right to bear arms.

We theoretically have the pro-gun votes to pass a clean repeal.

Also, despite Senator Pericles' refusal to pursue delaying this bill, the government still stands in favor of a partisan power grab when it comes to the Senate rules. All together, this turn of events has been deeply, deeply disappointing and should be thought thoroughly about by undecided or swingable voters in the upcoming federal elections and by pro-gun voters of all political stripes.

You know we strongly disagree on this and it is a partisan issue. It's not even particularly relevant. The point is, the PPT has, it seems, occassionally misused his powers to advance and further his own agenda, so we either need an explanation from him as to why (and perhaps him agreeing not to do so again), or a new PPT in the next senate.

I think it's also very telling that he was called on it, had no excuse, and did not reform his conduct as he said he would do (as you already mentioned).

I’m unsure as to what the complaints by my colleagues here about “early closed votes” are. I closed the vote on the previous amendment after 14/18 (78%) of Senators had voted. Sometimes, every single Senator cannot be reached, that’s unfortunate, but it’s the reality of the situation. There is nothing inappropriate about that. If you have an issue with the timing/scheduling of votes, PM me and I’ll happily discuss any reservations you have.

Dont worry. President Scott has redraft powers. If this passes he can send the bill back with the fascist part stricken out and then yall just revote to ratify the version as presented by President Scott with no opportunities for sneaky amendments.

I don't really care about the amendment either way. I'll strike it out if that's a condition for this bill's passage.

I intend to move on from this issue in short order.

I just saw this, so I do want to clarify: when the amendment was introduced, I (as well as the rest of us, really) erred in not asking for the amendment's intent. I looked up the law in question, which is 80 years old, shrugged, and decided I'd sign the bill either way because the effect is the same.

What a mess. This is still the current text:

Current text:

Quote
AN ACT
To repeal the Federal Assault Weapon and Automatic Weapon Ban Act in its entirety.

Be it enacted by the Senate of the Republic of Atlasia assembled

Section 1. Title

1. This act may be cited as the Federal Assault Weapon and Automatic Weapon Ban Full Repeal Act.

Section 2. Definitions

2. All sections of the Federal Assault Weapon and Automatic Weapon Ban Act are hereby repealed in their entirety, effective immediately.

3. The categories of weapons set out in the repealed legislation shall subsequently be regulated under the National Firearms Act.
