some of you may be surpised by some of these, but that's only because of the lack of hindsight:

1824 Clay
1828 Jackson (of course I would never vote for him today, but I wouldn't have known about the Trail of Tears)
1832 Jackson
1836 Van Buren
1840 Van Buren
1844 Polk
1848 Van Buren (Free Soil)
1852 Hale (Free Soil)
1856 Fremont
1860 Lincoln
1864 Lincoln
1868 Grant
1872 Grant (corrupt as he was, I'd be too partisan and too much of a pro-union hardliner to note vote for him)
1876 Hayes
1880 Garfield
1884 Blaine
1888 Streeter (Union Labor)
1892 Cleveland (the Populists were very racist from what I've heard)
1896 Bryan
1900 Bryan
1904 T. Roosevelt
1908 Bryan
1912 T. Roosevelt
1916 Wilson
1920 Debs
1924 LaFollette
1928 Smith
1932 FDR
1936 FDR
1940 FDR
1944 FDR
1948 Truman, though Wallace would be tempting
1952 Eisenhower
1956 Stevenson (I would be a bit of an Ike bandwagon jumper in 1952 and once this wore off by now my partisanship would shine through and I'd vote for Stevenson. I might've voted to reelect Ike if his civil rights push and forced desegregation happened already, but I beleive that was in his second term)
1960 Kennedy
1964 LBJ (remember, no hindsight benefit...)
1968 Humphrey (I'd be pissed at him, but he was a Minnesotan!)
1972 McGovern
1976 Carter
1980 Carter
1984 Mondale
1988 Dukakis
1992 Clinton
1996 Clinton
2000 Gore
2004 Kerry

I'm only 21 and recently become a U.S citizen from Canada.

And since i'm all about personal freedoms, TRUE personal freedoms with no double standard, it would be LP.

I will always vote for them until I die...

From what i've studied here so far, both sides give and take away from the country.

Why do you guys want someone to take care of you when you damn well that they are so out to lunch, they don't even care what you really think...

Honest politics... choosing the lesser evil out of the two.
not.

1948: Truman, maybe Wallace
1952: Stevenson
1956: Stevenson
1960: Kennedy
1964: Johnson
1968: Humphrey
1972: McGovern
1976: Carter
1980: Carter
1984: Mondale
1988: Dukakis
1992: Clinton
1996: Clinton
2000: Gore

It's not that I would never vote for a Republican, it's just that they never nominate anyone worth voting for. There have been some Republican candidates in the past I've liked, and may have voted for had they been nominated, but they never get nominated (such as Rockefeller in 1968 and McCain in 2000). I certainly would have voted for Lincoln and Theodore Roosevelt, but they are the only great Republican Presidents, in my opinion.

Some of you guys went all the way back! Wow! Okay, here goes...
1789 & 1792: Washington (who else?)
1796, 1800 & 1804: Jefferson
1808: Madison
1812: Clinton
1816 & 1820: Monroe
1824 & 1828: Adams
1832: Clay
1836 & 1840: Van Buren
1844: Polk
1848: Van Buren
1852: Pierce, but only because he was Nathaniel Hawthorne's best friend
1856: Fremont
1860 & 1864: Lincoln
1868: dunno... I guess Grant if I had no foreknowledge of how bad he was going to be
1872: dunno... both candidates were lousy
1876: Tilden
1880: Hancock
1884, 1888 & 1892: Cleveland
1896 & 1900: Debs if he ran those years (I can't recall for sure); if not Bryan
1904: Roosevelt
1908: Debs
1912: Roosevelt
1916: Wilson
1920: Cox
1924: LaFollette
1928: Smith
1932, 1936, 1940 & 1944: Roosevelt

Some observations on other lists:
I'm surprised that so many people who voted mostly for Democrats said they would have gone for Ike in '52 & '56. I think Stevenson would have been a great President, and that Ike was mediocre at best.
It's ironic that some of the arch-conservatives, whom one would expect to be the most ardent defenders of capitalism, are so harsh in their judgments of FDR, who saved the capitalist system.

I tried to make my list by thinking about who I would have voted for if I had lived through the country's history. (Man, I'm old by now. Smiley)

1789 & 1792: Washington
1796, 1800 & 1804: Jefferson
1808 & 1812: Madison
1816 & 1820: Monroe
1824 & 1828: Adams
1832: Clay
1836 & 1840: Van Buren
1844: Polk
1848: Taylor
1852: Pierce
1856: Buchanan
1860: Douglas
1864: I live in the CSA right now.
1868: Seymour
1872: Greely
1876: Hayes
1880: Garfield
1884: Cleveland
1888: Harrison
1892: Bidwell (By this time I'm sure Harrison and Cleveland both stink.)
1896 & 1900: McKinley
1904: Roosevelt
1908: Taft
1912: Roosevelt
1916: Hughes
1920: Harding
1924: Coolidge
1928 & 1932: Hoover
1936: Landon
1940: Willkie
1944: Roosevelt (Outstanding war leadership. Although I list him among the greats for his war leadership, I wouldn't have voted for him before because of social issues.)
1948: Dewey
1952 & 1956: Eisenhower
1960: Nixon (This one would have been a tougher choice due to Kennedy's positions on the military and taxes.)
1964: Goldwater
1968 & 1972 Nixon
1976: Ford
1980 & 1984: Reagan
1988 & 1992: Bush
1996: Dole
2000 & 2004: Bush

BUt I suspect there must be something wrong with that site, because it rated me as having 57% of Kuchinch's  If Kuchinich had ben the Dem nominee, I would certainly be voting for Bush.  Bush would have to do a lot worse than he is for me to think Pres. Kuchinch would be a good idea.

I think I read somewhere that they had ties to the KKK, at least in the upper Midwest, although that could've been just a few of them.

Someone had very earlier asked who the Socialist candidate in 1916 was. The answer is:

ALLAN LOUIS BENSON of New York.

Only the Populist Last Stand of 1908 pledged a rascist platform. The 1892 platform professes strong Civil Rights.

Y'know, I think I have two of the weider selections:

Alson (Or Anson, depending on which resource you use) Jennesses Streeter, the 1888 Union Labor Party candidate, who finished fourth overall with 146,435 votes. I've seen a couple people who chose Streeter, but that's few and far between.

My singular selection of Parley Parker Christensen (1869-1954) of the Farmer Labor Party for the 1920 campaign is awkward looking, and I was curious if anyone knew any more info about either of them?

Welcome aboard, Tom!

I second that. Hi Tom, and welcome to the forum. Btw, how come you would've chosen Nixon over McGovern in 1972? It's just that it seems out of sync with your other votes.
