I guess I'd be surprised that he waited so long to try again.

The most likely path in this case is Biden gets re-elected, Buttigieg continues to serve as Transportation Secretary, loses the primary to Kamala in 2028 (she loses the general), and then Buttigieg carpetbags to Virginia in 2030 and wins a congressional race, and becomes serves on a lot of important committees for the next two decades.

He'd be 71 by inauguration day?  I wouldn't be too surprised.  He seems like someone not quite ready for the presidency over the next decade, even though he could be ready much sooner than 2052.  I could see him winning as an elder statesman that year.

The reason I mentioned that date FYI is that's basically the equivalent of Biden being elected in 2020 after his 1988 campaign.

I guess I'd be surprised that he'd been involved in presidential politics for 30 years. I assume he left Indiana at some point, because it seems unlikely that he's winning office there anytime soon.

He'd still be younger than Joe Biden at inauguration. Even at his second inauguration.

I'd be most excited about the proof of time travel.

But he is probably most likely at this moment to be elected president in 2052 than any specific individual. He could very well be a guy who floats around politics for the next thirty years, kinda like Biden circa 1990.

He could very easily have multiple appointments to cabinet offices and/ or a stint in statewide office with a wave year for Democrats.

Maybe he’d be living Harold Stassen’s dream. Runs any time there’s not an incumbent Dem running for re-election until he finally wins.

There will be hundreds of more qualified, more skilled gay men by 2052 in American politics.  Aside from being gay, he really hasn't made a very big impact.
