imo its impact on Mecca has been more fiscally conservative and its impact on Medina has been more socially conservative

Hell no (in the last few decades)

Money is the only thing that matters for those cretins...
They use Islam to keep power but politically speaking commit atrocity towards the people of Palestine and the Uyghurs with their words and the people of Yemen with their bombs. And they're personally degenerates who sip tequilas inside their ivory towers, while at the same time imposing harsh rulings on people inside their kingdom and murdering anyone not speaking 100% flatteringly about their family or policies. Munafiqun at their worst

Same is true for the leaders of many, many more Muslim countries though of course but it's especially notable in Saudi Arabia due to their wealth and control of the Holy Cities

What's the point of this thread? Would you expect anyone on this site to be a Saudi defender?

I'd expect a handful to say the Saudis are a necessary evil or a net positive on a account of a hackish "MUH AMERICAN ALLIES" principle. A majority of posters still believe the American exceptionalist idea that US foreign policy is a unique force for good and a buffer against tyranny, despite being willing to denounce the Saudis, who are far, far away from being the only tyrants allied with the US.

What makes this joke even funnier is the fiscal reality of the Saudi projects in Mecca (sanctified by Wahhabism, naturally.)

The al-Saud are not anti-modern at all, quite the opposite; they’re aggressively anti-history, specifically the rich history within the cradle of Islam. Truly a cursed regime.

True, it’s unfortunate that there are no election maps of Saudi Arabia.

No, but neither had the United States a positive impact on Saudi Arabia.

Between exporting radical Wahhabism to the rest of the Islamic world by funding their own mosques with extremist preachers, and destruction of holy sites under that same Wahhabist worldview, hell no.

Hell to the no. The House of Saud, as others have stated already, clearly only care about their coffers and their luxury. They have committed war crimes after war crimes after war crimes in the Middle East for several years now. And let's not forget about how they have arguably the most blatant violations of human rights and liberties in this current world. We also cannot forget about their fundings of Wahhabism around the world, help leading groups such as ISIS, Al-Queda, Boko Haram, etc. The Muslim World would be much better off with almost anyone in control of Mecca and Medina.
