SAB and LMŠ are set to merge with GS, in the first consolidation attempt of liberal, center-leftish forces since LDS. SAB greenlighted the proposal already, LMŠ is expected to do the same and Golob stated this process will be accelerated. If Golob manages to pull this off smoothly and make this united party succeed, damn.

I wonder who's be a qualified contender to be nominated to the EU Commission in 2024?

GS, SD and Levica have officially signed a coalition agreement today. President Borut Pahor officially nominated Golob as Prime Minister today and received the Parliament's approval (54 votes in favor, 30 opposed, 1 invalid).

I don't know why they're bothering to include Levica, but whatever. They probably don't need it if push comes to shove.

Golob aimed to include all parties of the "Constitutional Arch Coalition" to his cabinet - After all, they were a steady and hard-fighting opposition against Janša in the past parliamentary term. They all just got bad luck that another newcomer sucked up all the anti-Janša vote and left them humiliated and underappreciated. So it's some sort of reward for Levica.

Golob aims to be a unifying PM, and at least for now, he has shown some good instincts to do politics according to this standard. He could've just let LMŠ and SAB die in misery, but it's not the worst idea to include some more experienced politicians (including Levica too) to his Cabinet. Cerar failed to deliver on that (see Violeta Bulc who was appointed to the Euro Commission after the spectacular Bratušek failure - Bulc was under fire for her esoteric views, including necromancy) and Šarec' coalition was just destined to fail once it was clear SMC would not survive the term and was gonna be destroyed in potential snap elections.

Initial post election polling shows this was a wise move - Let's see if that honeymoon lasts (spoiler: probably not, but who knows, Golob really tries hard to not repeat the mistakes of the previous center-left one hit wonders):

You do understand that the social-democratic faction won in Levica and that they've excessively pushed out all the anti-NATO and pro-democratic management people, right? Is moderation and killing of discontent with capitalism not enough for you?

Presidential elections were held today. Results so far:

There will be a runoff between Anže Logar, SDS candidate, and Nataša Pirc Musar, supported by the Pirates and former chairwoman of the Red Cross in Slovenia. The candidate supported by the government, Milan Brglez, is polling a distant 3rd place.

The runoff is schedule for 13 November.

Who is favoured to win the 2nd round? I assume the government will get behind the non-SDS person and give her the edge?

Yeah, early polling gives Pirc Musar a slight edge, but we'll have to wait and see what new polls say and how the other candidates will position.

Have any of the defeated candidates made an endorsement in the second round?

While president is more symbolic, this seems eerily like 2018 (yes Jansa got in eventually when SMC changed sides).  Right is more united so SDS comes in first, but more voted for centre and left wing parties so once smaller drop off they win.  In 2022 election it seemed a lot who favoured other centrist and left wing parties strategically voted for Golob just to ensure Jansa lost.

it is really wild that a presidential runoff in Eastern Europe is between Corrupt right winger beloved by rural grandmas vs a random academic from a ephemeral coalition named something like "Let's go! -Friendly Latveria"

To be honest, maybe when I was writing the word, I was thinking of the Portuguese translation of before, "antes", and, unconsciously, wrote after. And then missed completely the error.
