Democrats lost the tipping point state in 2004 by 2.1 points so its not as narrow as it looks and doesnt qualify here given we are only counting the ones within a point

Other: 1892 for Republicans, albeit this wouldn't be clear until several months after the election.

Looking all the way back, this has to be the correct answer.  The 1894 wave led to 16 years of uncontested Republican control of the federal government.  Dems never even got particularly close in the midterms!
