It's possible. If Lee Zeldin somehow gets elected Governor of New York against all odds, he would be formidable in a Republican presidential primary.

Yeah probably. It would be fun to count how many times they said “judeo-Christian values”.

Why not? I would be highly surprised is there is a large amount of voter who won't vote for someone simply because he is Jewish. Actually, I am very curious if a average voter can tell the difference between a Jew and a non-Jew white.

can't see it

the Southern base will especially reject any Jews. They have the perception that they're all in charge of Hollywood, that Jews don't even think they're white, etc.

Really? I feel like the average person doesn’t even realize how heavily jewish Hollywood and other elite parts of the US are because to even mention it is completely taboo.

Georgia just elected a Jewish man to the United States Senate.

I know you know he wasn’t a Republican…

Globalism is just incompatible with that party. You’d have to find a Jew who wasn’t one.

Kushner is the only hypothetical candidate who might be able to pull it off, but Ivanka would have a much easier time as a blonde-haired convert with the last name Trump than any ethnic Jew.

George Allen was a Jewish Southern conservative who ran like a hillbilly Ku Klux Klanner of the 1950s where he had a noose in his law office before he was a Congressman and a Governor and Senator....

https://www.brendan-nyhan.com/blog/2005/02/george_allen_an.html

If Macaca didn't use those terms against Jim Webb, he could have won reelection and probably would have been McCain's 2008 running mate. Allen would have been harsher towards Obama than Palin and would have been more than welcome to use racial slurs towards Obama worse than Palin did.

If Joe Lieberman was a Republican running in 2008, probably, despite the fact he apparently was pro-choice and pro-gay marriage.

Not sure about today's Republican Party, though.

George Allen was a practicing Protestant whose mother was ethnically Jewish, something he went out of his way to not mention.

Romney had no problem winning the primary as a Mormon, and most evangelicals have a more favorable view of Judaism than Mormonism.

Romney got very lucky in 2012 that his toughest opposition was Newt Gingrich and Rick Santorum. If say... Mike Huckabee, Sarah Palin, Mitch Daniels...or hell, even Donald Trump had run, Romney would not have been the Republican nominee.

Sure a Jewish candidate can win the R primaries. ...just as long as they hate some group (Moslems probably) strong enough.

Not that the French electorate is like ours, especially religion-wise, but Zemmour is Jewish, a Vichy apologist, and was doing great with the right.

Antisemitism is dead and disgraced in American politics, unless you count the tiny neo-Nazi Right and mirror-image black nationalists.

Barry Goldwater would have qualified for one-way passage to a gas chamber in accordance with Nazi "racial" laws. He was a Republican.

Goldwater was half-Jewish, ethnically, but he wasn't brought up in the faith and he attended Episcopalian church.

Sure, the party could nominate a Jewish candidate, so long as they didn't place too much emphasis on "the wall of separation between church and state," which is not a very popular phrase with the right.

Maybe.

Anyway, we will soon find out if a Muslim can win a GOP senatorial primary in Pennsylvania.

I'll take that bet. I think he wins the nomination in a landslide.

It's the pro-Jewish, pro-Israel party, right?  So why would there be any objection at all from any Republican to an out-and-proud Jewish candidate?

The polling trends say otherwise. https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/2022_United_States_Senate_election_in_Ohio

I don't see why not?

Trump proved that you don't have to be a devoted Christian or at least act like one to win the nomination.
