I'm asking because this is the date Angela Merkel became chancellor. We're now in the final hours of her tenure which is expected to end some time on December 8. It's literally mindblowing how long that is, especially by thinking back what your life was in November 2005. We must have posters that weren't even alive then.

I was still in school and just turned 14. It's pretty much insane Merkel was my chancellor for more than half of my life.

Went to school in the morning as a third-grader excited for the upcoming Thanksgiving weekend. After I got home from school I would watch Arthur and Cyberchase both of which would end before my mom would take me for swim lessons in the evening. Right before dinner Id either do my homework or if I didn't have any Id work out of a math workbook my mom had got me for half and hour. After dinner Id play a board game with my parents or play some video games before I had to go to sleep.

I was in preschool for the third year in a row. I don't remember much else, although I think my four-year-old self watched an advertisement for Mario Party 7 and thought it was neat.

I checked my journal for that date to be exact.

I was working as an internal affairs officer at the San Bernardino PD, investigating a case regarding one of the PO’s excessive ammo discharge (EAD) cases that happened on my watch.

I worked many cases, but for me personally, this case was the hardest.

The suspect in question was a female officer that I am still close with, and it was a truly difficult case because of the victim.

I’ll get into that in a bit.

There was a little known case during that time where a police officer shot two people in cold blood because he had a gun that wasn’t locked and loaded.

It was a murder-suicide by a cop.

He murdered two people and then took his own life.

After that, I worked one of the two surviving family members, who ended up going to law school and becoming an attorney, I didn’t know if the outcome would be any different if the officer had just pulled out his gun, or shot and killed another innocent person.

I was so concerned for the family of the dead officer, because they didn’t know what was going on and he was taking his own life.

They just wanted justice for their loved one.

The surviving family member was really concerned about the outcome of this case.

She was constantly worried that justice would not be served.

That’s one of the things that is so important to me now, being an attorney, that we see so many cases of police abuse and misconduct.

I’ve never stopped being aware of it.

It’s important that police officers are held accountable, but we also have to remember that police officers are human beings and that it’s their job to protect and serve, and if an officer is truly negligent and not fulfilling those duties, then that is unforgivable.

I don't know, but I assume my family must have been preparing for Thanksgiving.

I know I started at a new school on November 28, 2005 and I remember that day (though I didn't know the date at the time, I stumbled across it in a school document years later and made the connection), so I guess that's my closest memory.

Xbox 360 came out and my middle school bestie was all jazzed about it. Know one knew what red rings were yet.

It is neat. I unironically listen to music from that game.

In all seriousness, I was in TK (transitional kindergarten.)

I was in 4th grade.  I remember that we went on vacation to New York City as a family for Thanksgiving that year.  I'd honestly guess that we probably left on Tuesday 11/22.
