State Sen. Annette Taddeo, another gubernatorial candidate, wrote on Twitter that DeSantis was a "wannabe dictator trying to make his move for his own vigilante militia like we've seen in Cuba."

Not surprised that evidently the new strategy for Democrats with the quixotic goal of winning the Sunshine State is to make everything about Cuba even more than Republicans already do. I wouldn't be surprised if this brazen pandering to a single interest group ends up alienating the rest of the party's unstable motley of a coalition in the state, though, or even backfires on its intentions through failure to saturate the Spanish-language media market and so on.

Annette Taddeo is a Democratic State Senator who is running for Governor. She does not speak for the Florida Democratic Party. I quoted her on it because I liked the quote and thought it was fitting.

This is what Charlie Crist, the Democratic front runner for Governor said:
Democrats in Florida immediately expressed alarm at DeSantis' announcement. US Rep. Charlie Crist, who is running as a Democrat to challenge the governor in 2022, tweeted, "No Governor should have his own handpicked secret police."

That will depend on whether or not (if created) they operate outside of the normal boundaries of the law, without oversight, while engaging in intimidation, violence, and surveillance to suppress Republicans political opponents.

Quote
He is requesting $3.5 million from the state legislature in startup costs to equip and train them.

This is not a state police force, not with peanuts for funding. It’s a ribbon.

If you want to trust DeSantis with his own discretionary police force that would be entirely under his arbitrary control, then to you it isn't a secret police.

Misleading thread. DeSantis is less likely to have his good motivations, you can argue that, but this is simply establishing a force many other states have. Greg Abbott, Gavin Newsom and Kathy Hochul also have their own secret police forces by your definition.

To be expected when the media engages in slimy tactics to try to trash him, because of his refusal to do the sort of covid policies that most Democrats are doing.
Tbh, he's one of the most Nixonian personalities the GOP has had in a long, long time.

Fun fact: 22 other states do this, including California and New York. Please amend your thread title and stop misleading readers.

Ok I get the idea that national Democrats can give up but Cubans are a substantial portion of the state and are very elastic. It is idiotic for Fl democrats to just give up on Cubans.

At least Richard Nixon was able and willing to make compromises. Most Republicans see compromise as failure.

I'm guessing that criticizing the incompetence of Duce-Santis will be practically illegal soon

If I am an employer I certainly would impose a vaccine mandate. I don't want some fool putting co-workers, customers, or clients at risk of the dangerous COVID-19 virus.

Not my point. My point is that cracking down on BLM protesters is fine to these people, but Vaccine mandates are not. I wonder why that is ?

This is for emergency support during hurricanes. It has nothing to do with BLM protests.
