Would Ralph Nader have done significantly better in a Gore vs McCain race? I tend to think he would have. More people on the left would have been willing to risk a McCain presidency then a Bush one and it could potentially have had a significant impact on the electoral map as well between that and some of McCain’s moderate strength in states like Maine, Oregon, Washington, Minnesota, even Vermont.

McCain would’ve performed a lot stronger in those states that you mention so it would be possible for Nader to eat away enough of Gore’s support to deliver some of them to McCain.

At the same time, however, I do not see McCain doing as well as W in states like WV, AR or TN.
