Doubtful. I think Gingrich being from a neighboring state was the primary contribution.

As well as the debate, where he trashed the media. However, I do think anti-Mormonism might have played a role in widening Gingrich's win slightly (as in, were Romney not a Mormon I think he would have done a bit better).
