No 22nd Amendment.

The public is unaware of Reagan’s deteriorating mental state at the start of the campaign, beyond rumors and conjecture at least.

Democrats nominate the charismatic Arkansas governor over the “technocratic” Massachusetts Governor Dukakis as a dark horse candidate in a desperate attempt to unseat Reagan.

What happens?

Does Reagan win by as much as Bush or more?

Does Clinton win outright?

How does the campaign go (assume Clinton hires Carville and Reagan hires Atwater)?

Does Clinton overperform Dukakis at least? If so, is his map significantly different?

Bonus questions: Clinton vs. Bush 1988 and Reagan vs. Dukakis 1988.

Reagan wins, but by a margin narrower than Bush won by against Dukakis in real life.
