What if Donald Trump (born in 1905 or his fathers birthyear in OTL), a former New Deal Democrat who recently switched parties, runs and wins the GOP nomination on a platform of law & order, states' rights in respect to racial issues, and anti-federal government over HUD. I think he'd win almost every Wallace voter (barring a few from Alabama) and a majority of Nixon's voters and win in a landslide, but it's also possible he could be viewed as Goldwater 2.0 and rejected by all but a handful of Southern/Western states, even though Goldwater's endorsement would've been lukewarm at best and he would've been opposed to his candidacy, but quiet about it since he was still viewed as a conservative stalwart at the time.  How do you think he would've done. Discuss with maps.

Someone with the same views as Donald Trump would have been unelectable in 1968, so Hubert Humphrey probably wins 374-164, with Arkansas, New Mexico, Nevada, and Colorado being the states I am the least sure about.

Is this the same map as IRL with Trump instead of Wallace?

I think that Trump does a better job of peeling off northern conservatives from Nixon then Wallace could.

I've since realized that having Trump remain as a Dem would make more sense (ignore the faithless elector). Nixon still wins but Trump is able to energize Southerners and blue collar workers, particularly in The Midwest.

With my original proposal, Trump loses to Humphrey in a landslide despite LBJ's unpopularity and unlike him running as a Dem, he is not able to fully unite the GOP.
