I'd obviously vote for the old Frodo, but hey, if he wants to cast votes for Democrats now, I certainly won't stop him!

I'v observed that his change was probably triggered by John Kerry's defeat in the 2004 presidential election and thus onward drifted rightward.

Its just in 2006 he finds himself stuck between a rock and a hard place as teh country is trending toward the left.

He joined the forum in early 2005, so you can't really pinpoint any kind of 'trigger' date at November 2004.

(It sounds like I've been cyber-stalking him, but the only reason I remember that is because he joined when I was still relatively a n00b, and some things just stick in my mind.)

I think there was significant time lag but thats essentially what triggered it, the change was essentially poll driven.

Especially at your age, it just surprises me that someone could veer like that and sometimes it even seems like you are doing it because you enjoy the sense of rejection coming from those whom you were once allies of.  I know this is a gross oversimplification, but that's just how it comes off sometimes.  I'd be intrigued to hear what changed so I can more understand it, though.

I could say that since I started working, first as a temp, and then as a full-fledged employee, and have gained more self-reliance, my politics has also changed in tandem, and as a result I became less liberal.

But more importantly, I have seen the results of extreme partisanship from both sides of the political divide, with Democrats being denounced as traitorous 'girly-men', and Republicans as 'fascist, theocratic warmongers', with the logical consequence that each side becomes unwilling to work with the other to solve pressing issues that the American people demand they do. I have simply become nauseated -just sick and tired of it all, of each side each striving to demagogue the other.  If this is an example of politics with a 'conscience' and a 'backbone', the country as a whole could do with a whole lot less of it.

If I really was as poll-driven as you say I am, I would be as liberal as Ebowed is right now, pulling for an immediate pull-out of all our troops from Iraq.

That's a bit of a late reponse!

Yeah, but it was a point about being 'poll driven.' I think since the polls in October 2006 are somewhat different today alot has changed since then.

I also stand by what I said in October 2006.

Seeing as how I only know Dixiecrat Frodo, that's who I vote for.
