Proud Liberal/old Frodo of course. Whatever happened to him? He was a huge fan of Russ Feingold and a Hugo Chavez supporter. Quite a shame.

So obviously option 1.

As far as cultural issues are concerned, it is in no small part been due to my revulsion of you as a human being.

So pat yourself on the back.

Basing your political views in large part on your opinion of one random person on the internet is a bit ridiculous, no?

In response to the question, I would have preferred a happy medium between the two. I like him better on economics now, but preferred him on social issues then.

Of course, if Bullmoose can be a Republican, there's no reason Frodo can't be a Democrat. Both are very out of step with their party socially but may simply care more about economic issues, in which their views are both very mainstream within the party.

I'm also out of step with my party when it comes to foreign policy (i.e. the Iraq War, Josh Bolton as UN ambassador), and on Supreme Court nominations.

Are you still sure you would consider me a Democrat?  Your friends on the left are about ready to flay me alive for my apostasy.

Oh, and did I mention I also support voter ID laws as passed in Georgia, Missouri, and elsewhere?  And that I don't consider the Confederate flag personally offensive or racist, and that I have no objections to Confederate History Month?

Frodo, I like you, but this whole "being persecuted by the Democrats" thing is a little silly.  Of course liberals are going to be uncomfortable with a social rightist being in their party.  If the party mainstream was where you are, I doubt you would be very friendly to them being in your party either.  That's just kind of how it goes.

I am curious to know what caused you to take such a sharp turn rightward in your life or in politics, though.  I'm sure Opebo is not at all the main factor.

People change, Alcon.  You are not the same person you were when you first got here, and neither am I.

Yes, I'm sure I still do consider you to be one. And you essentially agree with me on Iraq (it was a bad idea but an immediate withdrawal would also be bad).

But maybe this is what Alcon was talking about; it almost feels like you are trying to convince me to reject you. Smiley But I do appreciate your principled stands even where we do disagree and we both agree that the party is better off tacking to a more moderate course.

There is plenty of room in our big tent for you. We'll just keep you and jfern on opposite sides of the tent. Smiley

Well Frodo, I'm not sure how to respond to that.  Yes, people change.  And indeed in many ways I am not the same person I once was.  But my fundamental beliefs in life have not changed.  And I joined when I was 14.  I've gone through the period in life where most people do a bit of self-discovery.  Nonetheless, I haven't changed any of my fundamental views on life, only my political views.

Especially at your age, it just surprises me that someone could veer like that and sometimes it even seems like you are doing it because you enjoy the sense of rejection coming from those whom you were once allies of.  I know this is a gross oversimplification, but that's just how it comes off sometimes.  I'd be intrigued to hear what changed so I can more understand it, though.

Maverick obviously. He may not have a desirable ideology now but at least he's not your typical cookie cutter wannabe social democrat(I find people who adhere to just nromal idoelgoeis boring).

I'd quite comfortably vote for either Proud Liberal/old Frodo (D) and new Frodo/Maverick/Dixiecrat (D)

Most people change. It's unnecessary to make such a big deal of it though.

greanted, but we are talking about a MASSIVE change in a matter of a year and a half and probably less (was just looking at some of his posts frm feb 05)

True, but as you can see from my political matrix score, I'm not far left on economics. He's pretty close to me on that score now, and was much more liberal than me back in the day.
