AN AMENDMENT
to the Constitution of the Republic of Atlasia

Be it enacted by the Senate of the Republic of Atlasia:

Section 1 (Title)
i. The title of this Amendment shall be the “Property Rights Amendment.”

Section 2 (Property Rights Amendment)
i. Article I, Section 5 of the Constitution is hereby amended:

No person shall be deprived of life, liberty, or property without due process of law.; nor shall private property be taken for public use, without just compensation.

As the writer of this amendment, I'd like to mention that this just adds the property rights provision in the OTL 5th Amendment to the Atlasian constitution.

We did repeal Kelo v. New London back when Mr. R was in the game through legislation, but I'm not opposed to a constitutional amendment.

Eminent Domain, while at times a necessary tool, has also been repeatedly abused and used in such fashion as to target poor and minority neighborhoods for elimination. At the same time there is the inherent right to possess and own property, which is a fundamental basis for our system and implications of favoring development over property rights has been to undermine that basic right and such can have a detrimental impact on the long term ability of people to accumulate wealth leading to various inequities that one would expect would naturally arise as such.

I am therefore leaning in favor of this amendment.
