I disagree with the USA.  I think Ukraine striking Russia's energy assets is completely above board and justified.  Russia is attacking Ukraine's energy system as well.  All is fair in love and war.

Yes, I very much agree. The Biden Administration is increasingly just stuck in a magical place where countries fighting existential wars can follow made-up feel-good rules rather than fighting in ways which match the context on the ground.

Looks like there's been a terrorist attack in Crocus City Hall, Moscow. I'm aware this is not a Russia megathread and there may not necessarily be a link to the war.

Warning: disturbing footage.

The US was warning about the possibility a few weeks ago

A. Ukraine terrorist attack?
B. Islamic or other outside group terrorist attack?
C. Russian false flag for mobilization?

I'd put A as "Ukraine-backed Russian faction" rather than direct action by Ukraine, and you left out D "Russian organized crime spills over".

All seem about equally likely to me.

This is tangential, but that "What the Media Hides" account has been all over my Twitter feed lately reposting fake news direct from Hamas.  Like literally just fake news.  As if the notion that the media is going to "hide" this terrorist attack isn't fake enough already.  Would recommend not following it if you were.  Of course I wasn't following it either but Musk's algorithm pushes this kind of content constantly in his grand effort to make the world a worse place.

Yes, good that you mention it - I already assumed it was a bad account and am definitely not following it. Just posted this specific tweet because of the videos.

"Russia is winning the global grain war"

Quote
The mass protests have forced EU governments from Warsaw to Paris to make huge concessions to farmers, and have sent Kyiv’s political ties with its Western allies spiraling to their weakest since Russia’s full-scale invasion over two years ago.

"Farmer fury puts EU support for Ukraine to the test "

Quote
Governments across the bloc are under siege from farmers, who say cheap Ukrainian produce is flooding their markets. Some have climbed onto to their tractors and occupied capitals. Others have blockaded the Ukrainian border. And, after sending their political leaders into a panic ahead of June's European election, they have no intention of backing down.

This makes Bakhmut more secure for Russia, not that Bakhmut was about to be conquered again by the Ukrainians...

In this case at least, the obvious answer also seems to be the correct one.

It appears Ukraine is not listening to the Biden administration's idiotic request that it stop targeting Russian refineries:

"Ukraine successfully strikes another Russian oil refinery, the Kuybyshev NPZ [in Samara], overnight. It’s nearly 600 miles from the border."

Plainly, as jaichind put it in other words, why should Ukraine stop? There's no strong enough case.

It seems the new railroad that links Rostov-on-Don with Crimea via the newly captured territories will be operational by end of 2024

Pessimism about the future of the conflict is also taking hold, with ever more people questioning whether Ukraine is capable of defeating Moscow's forces.

To a certain degree, that is to be expected.
