Round 12.

Carl Schurz (R-MO), 19th century
Charles R. Jonas (R-NC), 20th century
Tom Petri (R-WI), 21st century

You took my pick with Schurz! More importantly, I think you already picked Henry Cooper for Wisconsin. Is there another 21st century pick you'd like to take?

Cooper was picked by Battista in Round 11. Trust me, if I'm told to be careful with my picks, I will be careful with my picks.

Absolutely right! My mistake. Anyone else want to make picks this round?

Twelfth round picks:

18th/19th century - Josiah Parker (Federalist, Virginia)
20th century - Debbie Stabenow (Democratic, Michigan)
21st century - Heidi Heitkamp (Democratic, North Dakota)

I think you may have already picked John M. Langston as your Virginia guy. Have you got a backup in mind?

Round 13! I’m on my phone but once I have access to my laptop, I’ll update the spreadsheet. I also want to apologize for wrongly flagging a couple picks last round. And seriously, even if it’s just four of us regularly participating, I’m so pleased that you are seeing this through to the end.

Our google doc is at https://docs.google.com/spreadsheets/d/10z5XiwpLLLnnMLnUP3U0QKKJmoOJ4oEjEho6CGrzHLs/edit?usp=sharing. I recommend consulting it before you make your picks each round to ensure that 1) your picks haven't already been taken by someone else; and 2) you aren't picking for a state you've already selected.

If you missed any previous rounds, that's no problem! You can draft for this round as well as any previous missed rounds, as long as they fit the above-mentioned parameters. If you don’t recall how many rounds you missed or how many picks you can make, feel free to send me a message.

This round will end Wednesday at 9 am EST

Benjamin F. Flanders (Louisiana, Republican, 19th century). He only served a few months, but at this point in the game, it's hard to find anybody from this state who isn't a crook, an enslaver, or a segregationist.

Don Fraser (Minnesota, Democrat, 20th century). Do you like having your vote count in primaries? Thank this guy.

Joe Neguse (Colorado, Democrat, 21st century). A bright future ahead- and perhaps eventually a Secretary of the Interior?

It's Round 14 of 16. As the good doctor said, "we're in the endgame, now." Thanks for waiting a couple days-- I needed a couple of days offline to reset.

My picks are:

Jacob Collamer (19th century, Vermont, Whig-->Republican), the man who regularized the use of postage stamps

Daniel Evans (20th century, Washington, Republican), one of the best governors of the century, IMO.

Jeff Bingaman (21st century, New Mexico, Democrat), he always flew under the radar, but was constituent-focused and voted against the Iraq War despite being in a swing state.

16 full rounds will take us up to 49 of 50 states (unless someone misses out on AK+HI), so will we get an extra single-state round at the end to make our last picks?

Anyway, Round 14 –

Joe Cannon (R-IL), 19th century
Alphonzo Bell (R-CA), 20th century
Don Bacon (R-NE), 21st century

Yes! Your one remaining state at the end of round 16 can be from any time period.

Our penultimate round—15– is open!

Round 16- where four final choices will be made- will follow. In that upcoming round, you’ll pick one person from each era as usual. But for your final state (since there only 49, having merged AK and HI), you can pick a congressperson from any of our three different eras.

William Findley (Pennsylvania, Democratic-Republican, 18th/19th century)
Carl D. Perkins (Kentucky, Democrat, 20th century)
Ed Pastor (Arizona, Democrat, 21st century)

Senator, it's my fault for not updating the spreadsheet as soon as I should have-- but Ed Pastor is already taken. Have you got a different pick for your 21st century selection.

Okay-- it's time to start our sixteenth and final round. As always, our Google doc is at: https://docs.google.com/spreadsheets/d/10z5XiwpLLLnnMLnUP3U0QKKJmoOJ4oEjEho6CGrzHLs/edit#gid=0.

For this final round, make one pick from the 18th/19th, 20th, and 21st centuries as usual. You should then have one state left (there's 49 in this game, since, as you may remember, Alaska and Hawaii are joined together for the purposes of this exercise.). This final pick for your last state can be a congressperson from any time period you choose.

My last picks are:

Owen Lovejoy (Illinois, Republican, 19th century)
John Danforth (Missouri, Republican, 20th century)
Katie Porter (California, Democrat, 21st century)

and finally, Mickey Leland (Texas, Democrat, 20th century).

I’ll fill out the spreadsheet soon- but let me say- thank you to everyone who participated. This was fun and required decidedly more strategy than I thought to get a Congress I was happy with. An extra thank you to Battista, Kuumo, Elcaspar, and Joseph Cao for hanging on to the bitter end with me.
