North Carolina was blowing out Baylor, but after Brady Manek was ejected for a flagrant-2 foul, the Bears have cut a 25-point deficit to 9 with a little over 5 minutes left.

Well, it probably should have just be one T, but UNC shouldn't have fallen apart like that either, though their they've been notorious for their lack of depth this season.

Duke trailed Michigan State 70-65 with five minutes left, but finished on a 20-6 run to win it.

Barring a miracle comeback by Auburn, the SEC will have flamed out on the first weekend except for Arkansas, which made it to the Sweet 16 thanks to narrow victories over a 13 seed and a 12 seed.

Gonzaga vs. Arkansas is not going to be pretty.

Meanwhile Iowa State beat Wisconsin today to advance to the Sweet Sixteen, one season after going 2-22.

If another major conference program doesn't snap up T.J Otzelberger soon (Maryland perhaps?), I'd be very surprised.

Kansas State hiring Baylor Assistant Jerome Tang to fill their head coaching vacancy.

Very good hire, though there were individuals with Head Coaching experience, like Grant McCasland, who probably would have said yes to Kansas State if offered.

Picked Zags anyways to win it all, and picked UCLA as the Final 4, and Arizona and Nova, I won't win the game but will get pts

You have to pick upsets in every round which isn't gonna happen in order to win the big prize and these college people play good against their conference, they don't play enough games outside their Conf like Professional sports does to avoid upsets

It was very few upsets back in the day because NBA players like Shaq Curry, were dominating, c'mon whom what if thought Davidson would go home early, I picked them as an upset

While I would have liked to have TCU beat AZ I thought the no-call near the end of regulation was the right call.

A couple of forthcoming SEC hires, per Jon Rothstein:

Murray State's Matt McMahon to LSU.

Chattanooga's Lamont Paris to South Carolina.

Those are both really good hires.

I'm actually impressed LSU was able to get a marquee young coach like McMahon, honestly, given they likely are going to be facing very heavy sanctions in the near future.

Paris is also a very good hire. Really, the only SEC school that seems to have whiffed on their hire so far might  be Georgia, given Mike White might well have been fired at Florida anyways, and it's usually not wise to hire from rivals (the fan base hates that, and will usually start calling for the Athletic Director's sacking in that case).

Maryland officially hiring Seton Hall head coach Kevin Willard.

Great hire by Maryland. Willard might have been the second best coach in the Big East (after Jay Wright at Villanova), and he'll do great in College Park.

The only concern I have, is that the Big Ten is a somewhat tougher conference to do well in consistently than the Big East is, but I think he'll do fine.

Gonzaga won't win the national title.

At a minimum, they need to improve their free throw shooting, which has been abysmal in their first two games.

Gonzaga struggled against Memphis. Arizona, North Carolina, and Duke have a good chance to beat Gonzaga.

Memphis is significantly better than these teams - it's not even close. I think you meant to write Texas Tech, Kansas, and Houston.

Obviously they did, but your post implied that because Gonzaga beat Memphis, they would have trouble with Ariz/NC/Duke, with the implication that they were better teams than Memphis.  But his point, which I agree with, is that Memphis is better than any of those three even though they were a 9 seed.  They got that seed (deservedly) because of their record, but by talent and metrics they were more like a 2 or 3 seed.  Their record was hurt by two bad stretches - one early in the season when they had serious chemistry issues and one in the middle when they were decimated by injuries (they played a few games with only 7 scholarship players, and one half with only 6).  When they finally got healthy and were playing up to their potential, they went on a tear to end the season.

Situations like this make me wonder if the committee shouldn't go back to factoring in recent performance at least for seeding, if not for selection.

Interesting decision to get rid of Jankovich now by SMU. Was it the second round loss in the NIT that did him in?

Anyways, my guesses as to SMU's shortlist to replace Jankovich:

North Texas Head Coach Grant McCasland (though McCasland probably could have gotten a better job than this, perhaps in the SEC, if he were interested)

Former Missouri Head Coach Cuonzo Martin

Former Georgia Head Coach Tom Crean

With BYU eventually going to the Big XII, does any team end up replacing it in the WCC? Maybe California Baptist or GCU?
