Three of the four #1's (per Lunardi) have lost today: Arizona, Kansas, and Auburn.  And the fourth, Gonzaga, is currently down by 7 to St. Mary's, although that game is still quite early.

If Gonzaga goes down (and they're down 14 right now), then it's the top 6 in the AP poll losing today.  Wonder if that's ever happened before?

I just realized. If Gonzaga doesn't win the WCC Tournament for some reason, they're probably going to the NIT's. I'm not sure the wins over Texas, UCLA and Texas Tech are enough to offset playing in a poor conference and failing to win the autobid.

First time in history that the Top Six in the AP Poll all lost on the same day

SEC setting up for a photo finish with Arkansas, Auburn, Kentucky, and Tennessee fighting it out for the title.

Auburn has been struggling on the road, but they still have the inside track to win it all.  The Razorbacks are playing awesome--hard to believe that they lost at home to Vanderbilt earlier in the year.  That could be the difference.

Auburn is 13-3 and the other three are 12-4.  Remaining games:

Auburn: @Mississippi State, South Carolina
Arkansas: LSU, @Tennessee
Kentucky: Ole Miss, @Florida
Tennessee: @Georgia, Arkansas

Arkansas has very favorable tiebreakers, as they're 1-0 against each of the other three (with the final game against Tennessee still to play).

I think Tennessee has the easiest path here, no offense to Auburn who have been incredible this year, but something rubs me the wrong way about that game against MS ST. on the road. That's a real solid team down there in Starkville, and I don't wanna say it'll happen, but my gut feeling is Tennessee wins the conference regular season title.

It's also the first time that seven Top 10 teams lost on the same day, as #9 Texas Tech also fell.  (There have been several previous times that 6 of the Top 10 lost on the same day, just not the top 6.)

Gonzaga will still get an at-large bid. Oregon, San Diego State, Rutgers, Loyola Chicago, SMU, and North Carolina are questionable.

My takes on those schools:

Gonzaga will be a #1 seed (at the very worst a #2) even if they lose in the WCC tournament.

Oregon is hanging by a thread.  If they sweep the Washington schools and have a great run in the Pac-12 tournament, they might sneak in, but winning the tourney may be their only real hope.

San Diego State is on the outside right now, but if they win their remaining regular season games and have a good showing in the conference tourney, they'll have a good shot at an at-large bid.

Rutgers: see Oregon.  Rutgers @ Indiana this week is likely a bubble elimination game.

Loyola: out unless they win Arch Madness.  The MVC will be a one-bid league this year.

SMU: probably in with a win over Houston or a strong showing in the AAC tourney (i.e. lose in the final), assuming they avoid any bad losses.

North Carolina: in for sure with a win over Duke, probably in even without it, assuming they avoid bad losses.

Senior Will Alcock of Loyola Chicago, who I presume is a walk-on had scored 9 points in his 4 yr career as a Rambler scored 9 point tonight in his last home game as a Rambler as Loyola beat Evansville 82-31.  UNI and Loyola go head to head Saturday in a winner wins the conference on Saturday.  Loyola has been inconsistent enough that they aren't a lock for a tourney bid

Northern Iowa won a wild one in OT, 102-96, to win the regular season title.  Lunardi said that Loyola wasn't out of the field with a loss, but they would be dangerously close to it.

Loyola actually dropped to the 4 seed with the loss as the Valley had several decent teams but didn't do enough in nonconference to justify  a second bid.  Any of the top 5 could win the Arch Madness.  UNI, Missouri St., Drake, Loyola or Bradley.  To win the tourney, Loyola could conceivably have to beat 3 straight teams that they've lost to this year (Bradley, UNI and Drake (twice).

Obviously, it would be a huge upset if anyone other than SD St. won the Summit.  I have not a clue of what goes on in the Big West.

South Dakota State is favored to win the Summit, but I wouldn't be surprised if Oral Roberts wins. UC Irvine, Hawaii, UC Riverside, Long Beach Stare, and Cal State Fullerton all have a shot at winning the Big West

Well, it's possible, but ORU will have to win 3 tough games to do it.

The first possibility doesn't look too likely right now. Smiley  Houston is up 17 with under 3 minutes left and has dominated the entire game.

Bubble games tonight, in order of importance:

1. San Diego State at Wyoming.  The Aztecs are right on the edge, and a win at Wyoming would solidify their resume.  A loss wouldn't hurt them too much, but it's their last opportunity for a good win before the MWC tournament.

2. Syracuse at North Carolina.  The Tar Heels probably wouldn't fall out of the field with a loss, but it would be enough to make them start feeling nervous.

3. Kansas State at Texas Tech.  K-State is well outside the field at the moment, but a win in Lubbock would at least bring them within sight of it.

Syracuse and North Carolina have now gone into overtime with a 73-73 tie at the end of regulation

Edit: The final score was 88-79 with UNC winning
