Auburn is ranked #1 in the AP poll for the first time ever.  Oddly, the last time a Bruce Pearl-coached team moved from #2 to #1 was also following a victory over a John Calipari-coached team.  But it was with different schools for both of them: Tennessee for Pearl and Memphis for Calipari.

BYU leaving probably means Gonzaga at least kicks the tires on joining the Big East. It's a cultural fit for Gonzaga, and the cross country travel isn't as bad as people think, given Creighton's presence in the conference.

If that should happen (which I think is unlikely) a possible mate to join them might be Wichita State, the only non-football school in the declining AAC.

I thought part of the reason for Wichita St. going to the AAC  was their desire to start a DIV 1 football program.  Cause ya know, Kansas can support three two maybe one division 1 program.

I think the (relatively) new president at WSU has made some noises about wanting to restart football, but they don't have the money for it.

Wichita State isn't really a fit for the Big East, which is (with the exception of UConn and Butler) all Catholic Universities, and all but UConn are private schools. A better fit would be Loyola Chicago (which is moving to the Atlantic 10, but the Big East would be an even better upgrade).

Probably not. Other than the Big East, which would be a great fit if not for the cross-country travel and the PAC-12, which would probably require a football program, there really isn't another conference that would meet Gonzaga's requirements as a national program.

USC blows out Arizona State 78-56. Every obscure USC player made an appearance late in the second half. USC point guard Amar Ross played in his first game of the season and made a 3-pointer. USC guards Reggie Parris and Zach Brooker also appeared in a game the first time this season made an appearance too. Seldom used USC guard Malik Thomas also appeared in the game. Seldom used USC centers Boubacar Coulibaly and Harrison Hornery also appeared late in the game.

Chris Mack out at Louisville. Wow, I didn't realize it got that bad.

Also, my Bruins take on #3 Arizona tonight at Pauley. Should be a fun one.

Louisville's still a really good job, and probably the third best job in the ACC, behind Duke and North Carolina, so they should find a very good coach to replace Chris Mack.

My guesses as to Mack's replacement:

Alabama Head Coach Nate Oats

Rutgers Head Coach Steve Pikiell

Iowa State Head Coach T.J Otzelberger

Marquette Head Coach Shaka Smart

Who knew John Stockton would turn out to be the village idiot.

Athletes are just like the general population in that they have a wide variety of capabilities and viewpoints, but like all celebrities, they get an oversized amount of attention.  Some will turn out to be idiots, but OTOH some will turn out to be extremely impressive people (e.g. Kareem Abdul-Jabbar).

Well, of course Kareem is far more accomplished as an academic than 99.9% of the NBA, but it's not even a matter of intelligence, it's just Stockton is mentally incapable.  I mean who would ever give him any respect after he sh**t all over himself like that?
