Loyola-Chicago is leaving the Missouri Valley Conference for the Atlantic 10.  The MVC is reportedly pursuing Murray State, UT Arlington, and Kansas City (formerly UMKC).

George Mason looks like a tournament team, but Maryland has looked very disappointing so far this year. The offense is brutal, and the issue hasn't been integrating transfers so much as it has been that the returning guys have taken a big step back. The inability to create good looks inside has led to really ugly shot selection, which has led to predictably poor results. There are only a few weeks left to turn things around before conference play, and right now it's hard to see this team being competitive in the Big Ten.

I'm planning to be in the building next month to watch Maryland play Virginia Tech and Florida. I haven't seen Virginia Tech at all, but against Florida State the Gators looked like they belong in a different league than Maryland right now. It's hard to be optimistic.

Another early non-conference loss for the Big 10, this time by Ohio State, although on the road at Xavier is not a terrible one.

The Big Ten's Non-Conference season has gotten worse, as DePaul defeated Rutgers 73-70.

Cal is currently losing at home to Southern Utah but coming back. It looks like a narrow Cal win in double overtime.

Don't count wins and losses. Big Ten is still 2nd best conference by a considerable margin and the SEC and ACC have had a much greater fall from preseason forecast.

ACC and Pac-12 are sitting fairly solidly behind WCC in 6th/7th though plenty of time for that to change.

#22 St. Bonaventure was down big in the second half to Clemson, but used a 16-0 run to take the lead and then hung on to win 68-65.

Outside of North Carolina/Duke having resurgent starts to the season, the ACC as a whole has been very down to this point.

Case in point:

Towson leads Pittsburgh 53-51 with four minutes to go.

A low-key frustrating part about college sports is that I want to clown on Pac-12 schools having embarrassing losses, but in the long run this just hurts UCLA's seeding.

Purdue defeated Villanova today and looks very much like a national title contender.
