Big shocker, but Jay Wright is retiring as Head Coach at Villanova.

The most likely names to be on Villanova's shortlist:

Fordham Head Coach Kyle Neptune (Wright's preferred successor, I'd be very shocked if he didn't end up with the job)
Alabama Head Coach Nate Oats
Arkansas Head Coach Eric Mussleman
Marquette Head Coach Shaka Smart

Kyle Neptune was announced as Jay Wright's successor

Quote
Hall of Fame coach Jay Wright announced that he is retiring after 21 seasons as head men's basketball coach at Villanova.

The Wildcats said Wednesday that Wright will begin a new role as special assistant to the president, and that Fordham's Kyle Neptune, who spent 10 years under Wright as a video coordinator and an assistant coach, will take over as Villanova's head coach.

Didn't see it coming but not terribly surprised. I dreamt of him sticking around forever, but I kind of felt he would retire by 2025, knowing him. There was nothing more to do but enjoy life.

For years the successor was supposed to be Baker Dunleavy. Was constantly hoping for him to step up and take out Iona/Monmouth in the MAAC and instead Seton Hall finds their alum doing so...

Neptune's a great recruiter and what he did at Fordham is nothing short of a miracle. I figured he was third in line behind Ashley Howard as well, given Howard's Philly roots, until Howard was let go. Maybe he will come back as an assistant.

Definitely hurts to lose a towering figure so abruptly. We were in tears here tonight. There is no way to fill his shoes.

SMU's Kendric Davis, the AAC player of the year, is transferring to Memphis.  This creates the unusual possibility that if he repeats, he would be a back-to-back conference POY -- for two different teams.
