In 1996 Kansas Sen. Bob Dole resigned from his Senate seat to focus on his presidential bid. To this day, despite being close to 100, he is more active than most 98 year olds, still attending GOP conventions and releasing statements.
I highly doubt anyone could beat him in a Senate primary or election, given his huge popularity in the state, but when would he retire or choose to not run for re-election? Could he still be in the Senate today, just about breaking Byrd's record? Or maybe just outlasting Stevens so he could have a chance at president pro tempore?

I could see him still being a senator like Grassley, only retiring next year because of his cancer diagnosis.

This - I think he’d probably be a lifer.

I think the real question is whether Elizabeth Dole still ends up in the Senate. I could see her taking one of the Kansas seats if Bob retired in the 00s or 10s, but I doubt the couple would serve concurrently, and especially not from different states.

I feel like someone else, potentially Burr would've taken the seat Dole held. In that case I feel like Burr runs for his old seat and loses in 2008 similar to Dole IOTL and then in 2014 he successfully runs and wins his old seat before retiring in 2020 and being replaced by either Tillis or one of the 2022 senate candidates.

I wish Bob Dole stayed in the Senate considering who succeeded him as Majority Leader (Trent Lott) and who took over his Senate seat (Sam Brownback).

Most of the occasions in which his seat has been up since he retired have been very favourable to the GOP - 2004, 2010, 2016 (1998 was neutral and 2022 is TBD), so he likely wouldn't have been in trouble even if his state's electorate developed increasing reservations about his age and health.

I think he would have retired in 2010
