Friends vs How I Met Your Mother

Which sitcom about a group of twenty-something friends who live in New York and always hang out at the same beverage establishment do you like better? I know you can technically group Seinfeld in here, but I wanted to do a more direct comparison between just two shows.


Anyways my vote is for How I Met Your Mother. I’ve seen the entirety of HIMYM and only half of season 1 of Friends so it’s harder for me to compare them 1 on 1, but I find HIMYM to be much funnier and the characters are more relatable.

If you exclude its final episode, HIMYM is the easy winner.  But that ending was awful.

HIMYM is, episode to episode, a funnier show. That being said, having watched both shows many times through, Friends is probably the better show. The HIMYM ending was such a disaster, and that really drags down the whole series. Also, so much of what HIMYM does builds off of what Friends already did (not just the general concept, but even the same bits and gags). That makes a HIMYM episode a better watch, but you have to give Friends the credit for paving the way.

HIMYM is, in my opinion, the most overrated written TV show of the last 25 years.

Friends is not funny, IMO.  I have never LOL'ed once while watching that show.  All of the six leads are batty and i just want to turn it off once I hear the theme song and the dopey opening credits.

It was so overrated and now it's just old.

I'm pretty neutral. I never cared for either. I find them both fairly generic.

I've never seen HIMYM but I voted for it anyway because I find it difficult to believe that it could be more unlikable than Friends.

HIMYM was just okay, while I absolutely hate Friends (even if HIMYM used much of the same formula), so HIMYM is better by default.
