Now there's a name I haven't heard since the 2000s:

Jim Wallis is on a mission to make voting rights the religious issue of our time

I believe he was a rare liberal Christian voice that was put up to counteract or counterbalance the more famous and more powerful voices from the Religious Right?

Jim Wallis is the founder and editor of Sojourners, which is a popular Christian journal among progressives.

I think Brian Zahnd is the white male Boomer standard bearer for the Christian Left these days.

Voting rights really doesn't lend itself that well to being seen as a religious issue, at least by white people. Certainly not the religious issue. Poverty is a better choice of focus here.

The voting rights issue of the century should be abolishing the Senate. Anyone who doesn't actively promote this has no claim to being "for voting rights."

Or at least nerfing its currently extreme powers to make it more like a "normal" revising chamber, yes.
