Charles Booker is an absolute idiot if he doesn't drop out of the Senate race and switch to this.

He's not an idiot, he just knows that there's money to be made with raking in donations from resistance liberals while he doesn't have to worry about actually having to pass legislation. Grifting, yes, but not stupid.

This is an uncharacteristically bad take. Booker is the furthest thing from a grifter. To say he has no interest in actually passing legislation is ignorant, as he has run two issues-driven campaigns. He may just feel that he's already gone headfirst into the run for Senate, so it would be appear opportunistic to drop out now and run for Congress instead. This logic could be (and was) applied to Amy McGrath, but it's just simply not true for Booker.

So what if he's running issue-driven campaigns? It doesn't matter what issues you run on if you're running for a seat you can't win. With the retirement of Yarmuth, he has the opportunity to run for a seat where he'd actually be able to get elected but chooses not to. If his interest is actually legislating, he'd switch to the race that would let him do so.

If he had any interest in passing legislation then he would run for an office he can actually win.

I don't know anything about the inner workings of the KY Dems, but I can't imagine they would want to give Booker the inside track to running for their only winnable Congressional District over McGarvey. Maybe Booker just didn't know Yarmuth would retire and made the decision to run for Senate first. Either way, I don't think it speaks to him not wanting to legislate. In order to shift the margins on these races, candidates need to run for them with a strong message that's more than just "I'm basically a Republican-lite" like McGrath did.
