Yesterday

Then
https://ricochet.com/podcast/federalist-radio-hour/diagnosing-the-disease-that-infects-americas-institutions/

Doyle is rather extreme, and at first I thought he was just some far right authoritarian horseshoe theory in action troll.

But then I listened to the Yesterday’s episode of the federalist radio hour podcast. And the redpill finally kicked in.

Very few people were actually with MLK, but Conservatives were never with him.

Beloved he is by the black community to this day, and I guess by extension white liberals, but yes, Conservatives never really cared for the guy.  They agreed with that beautiful cross-dresser J. Edgar Hoover's moral crusade against King - that he was nothing but a hypocritical charlatan who liked to have sex with white women and had commie pinko sympathies - a rabble rouser who got what he deserved, according to Cranky Old White Dude #222 that I spoke to in my hometown in PA on my Meals on Wheels route.

The people who say "We should judge by character not skin color, just like MLK said," would have hated MLK in the 1960s (and maybe they actually did hate him in the 1960s, depending on their age).

Public opinion polls showed MLK consistently underwater with whites, particularly in the final years of his life. Conservatives accused him of being an anti-American communist and everything else.

Great news. Conservatives need to stop pretending to like him.

Just like since 2008 they have slowly stop pretending to not be racist.

It's interesting to consider in what regard King would be held today had he survived his 1968 assassination attempt (he quite possibly would still be living or have only recently died, his 93rd birthday is coming up in January 2022.)

The Boondocks took a crack at this in I think season 1.

If he were alive today many would denounce him as a radical Marxist.

Most right-wingers and leftists don't know a thing about MLK. This includes atlas. Malcolm X is better anyway

This is intriguing. I have a friend who likes to remind me of MLK's "white moderates" comments, so it seems like in the same way that some of the the left is beginning to stop pretending that MLK was just some hippie-dippie quote dispenser, some of the right is begininng to stop pretending they ever had any affection for Dr King's views in the first place.

I had a substitute teacher back in the 2000s, was in her 80s at the time so probably gone now, she got talking with me one day and she stated something to the effect of "its going to come out that MLK was a communist, just you wait and see".

I think I read a Gallup Survey in the book "Turning Point: 1968" by Irwin Unger and Debi Unger that surveyed black Americans on MLK and even with blacks he was 47/48 favorable. I can't find the poll, but there are many other things in the book that detail the pressures he was under trying to stay relevant to the supporters of the new black militants like Malcolm X and the rather horrible Stokely Carmichael on one side, and the white liberals (along with the emerging/establishment blacks) on the other.

Before being assassinated, of course, King was also trying to broaden the movement from Civil Rights to encompass addressing poverty and ending the Vietnam War as well.

The book mentions King's standing among the black militants. It doesn't say when this started though it was obviously before the Tet Offensive -another thing younger people don't realize these days is that, especially among white Americans, the Vietnam War was extremely popular until the Tet Offensive.

Page 177 and 178 "King's anti Vietnam stand reconciled the civil rights left to him. By now King had become an object of fun to the young radicals. There referred to him as 'De Lawd' after the sanctimonuous main character - God as a southern black preacher - in Marc Connelly's popular playof the 1930s 'Green Pastures.' But they heartily endorsed his anti-Vietnam stand for they themselves believed the American role in Southeast Asia totally depraved."

Even if they don't like everything about him, conservative will still insist that MLK was right to say that people should be judged by the content of their character and not the color of their skin.

Right, there's nothing hypocritical about disagreeing with some of the more left wing comments MLK made later in life while agreeing with what he said in the I Have a Dream Speech. Hell, the left just does the same thing in reverse since they like his more left wing economic statements but don't think people should be judged by the content of their character.

I also have no problem with the white moderate speech since he was talking about white people who were too cowardly to do anything about segregation despite knowing it was wrong and having relatively little to lose, much like what happened with slavery in the early parts of the country's history. He wasn't talking about the made up meme issues woke Twitter constantly tries to apply the speech to incorrectly.

And no, Malcolm X was not "way better" despite renouncing a few of his more questionable views shortly before his death.

No, 'the left' believes that everybody should be judged by the content of their character, but due to implicit/subconscious and overt bias/discrimination, that simply doesn't happen.  MLK recognized that as well, and he recognized that well by the time of his "I have a dream speech" (which was the second half of that speech, 'insufficient funds' being the first half.)

Malcolm X is far better than the slave-morality-preaching socialist. One of the greatest men of the civil rights struggle and a genuine hero.
