The Houston Metro area voted for Joe Biden by 1.03% and trended towards the Republican Party between the 2016 and 2020 U.S. Presidential elections by 1.57%. This is one of the major reasons Texas didn't flip blue in 2020.
Wrong. It voted for Biden by 2.30 points, no ideas where you got that 1.03 number from.

I apologize but it appears you have miscalculated.
After rechecking, it seems that the Houston MSA voted for Biden by 1.03%

1,330,116 votes (49.83%) [D] Joe Biden
1,302,436 votes (48.79%) [R] Donald Trump
36,727 votes (1.38%) Other

Compare this to the Dallas-Fort Worth MSA that voted for Biden by 1.30%

1,535,523 votes (49.87%) [D] Joe Biden
1,495,548 votes (48.57%) [R] Donald Trump
48,266 votes (1.57%) Other

Perhaps there's a misunderstanding with the boundaries of the Houston MSA?
I'm going by the most current Census Bureau definition, which includes the following counties:

  • Harris
  • Fort Bend
  • Montgomery
  • Brazoria
  • Galveston
  • Liberty
  • Waller
  • Chambers
  • Austin

It wouldn't surprise me to hear, though, that one of these counties was only added very recently to the metro area due to growth.

The census has a tendency to include more Counties in its Metro area definitions than it really should. My definition excludes Liberty, Waller, and Austin Counties in the Houston Metro, only including the other 6.
