Now that Trump has endorsed one of Cheney's primary opponents in 2022, GWB has entered the fray as well, to defend Cheney.

https://www.wsj.com/articles/liz-cheneys-re-election-bid-pits-trump-against-bush-11632303001
https://www.washingtonexaminer.com/news/george-bush-fundraise--liz-cheney

Still don't think this will be much of a contest. GWB doesn't carry much stature in the party (not as much as his father) and Trump is the GOP base's god; just about anyone with his endorsement will win a GOP primary. But personally I think if Bush keeps up the criticism of Trump and insurrection generally, he may start earning redemption for the hot mess that was the Iraq War.

If Cheney loses, she should run as an independent.

No sore losers?  So does that mean Trump can't be on the 2024 ballot there or does it only apply to local candidates?

She should move to a state that is more consequential.

Wyoming has open primaries. Cheney's hope would appear to be to win enough existing Republicans that Democrats voting in the Republican primary can push her over the top. I've no idea what the odds of that happening are.

I really, really hope Cheney pulls this off, she's a pretty standard conservative and has no reason to be primaried other than refusing to back the lie that the election was stolen. If she loses, it'll send a very bad sign about the future of our democracy.

These Never Trump Republicans have forgotten what allowed them to radicalize their party in the first place, and that's to start small and work your way up. If they want to invest in a non-Trump future, then they ought to pour money into state legislature elections, city/town council races, and less ideologically-focused gubernatorial races. Throwing money at the most high-profile congressional races or the 2024 presidential primary won't give them any influence in Trump's Party. They also don't understand that they'll have to dramatically rework their messaging in order for it to work in today's political climate, but that's another discussion.

I know most of the board hates Trump and the literal band of traitors that makes up the modern GOP.  But this is an important time to remember that GWB is a literal war criminal.

The enemy of my enemy is my enemy's enemy. No more. No less. When it comes to stopping the current crop of Republican traitors trying to destroy America, I'll take the help of war-criminal W.
All modern American presidents are war criminals (except maybe Carter). I think that says more about the United States as a country than it does about our presidents as individuals. At least Bush had the decency to be ashamed of his assassinations, torture, and domestic spying - I think that Obama's handwaving of the Bush administration crimes did more damage to the fabric of our country than W's actual crimes did. If you want to see Trump, Obama, W, Clinton, and probably Biden all shipped to the Hague for the rest of their natural lives, I'll cheer it on. But only because it represents the possibility of positive change. Holding them to account is the start, not the end, of what ought to be a long and visceral American self-examination - something I do not think will ever actually happen.

Ok but why fundraise for her in Dallas when she's running in WYOMING??

Unless they're trying to get that sweet DFW suburban #resist lib money. I mean look at the home prices in Collin County.

And yes I know Bush 43 lives in Dallas, but why fundraise for her in Dallas instead of just hopping on a plane to Wyoming to campaign for Liz over there?

Bush is more popular among Dems than Reps nowadays. Suburban Dallas really is the best place for him to be.

January 6 already sent that message loud and clear. This house race is meaningless after that.

Bush doesn't like people who use riots to unsuccessfully steal Presidential elections.

I don't think that's true. I recall recent polling of best and worst presidents and W was in the top 10 for Republicans and near the bottom for Democrats. It was discussed on Atlas but I don't remember where.

Sore loser laws refer to primaries. It's so someone who loses the primary can't launch an independent campaign to spite the person who beat them.

Trump lose a general election so it wouldn't apply, not that it's a rule for national campaigns anyway.
