Spadina-Fort York flipped to NDP but I'm willing to bet Vuong will squeak through because I'm feeling pessimistic.

If anyone would be helped by mail-in ballots, it'd be him (by default)

Quite a pathetic result for the NDP. A review on his leadership and electoral strategy needs to held.

TIL there is literally a riding called Quebec, that is within Quebec.

Just like until the mid-90s, there was a riding named Ontario that was within Ontario.

One wonders how it got that name.

O'Toole saying that "if you worship on Friday, Saturday, Sunday, everyday, or not at all, there is a place for you in the Conservative Party".  How would that go over in the United States if the Republican leadership said that?

In the US, that would be interpreted to mean that fans of high school, college, and professional football are all welcome in the party.

I think the slowest counting riding right now is King-Vaughan in the 905, which flipped blue while we were down. Would be a lol moment that the cons lose two York seats but flip one.

I don't know how many people would have imagined that Vaughan-Woodbridge would have been a closer call than Richmond Hill.  (Such is demographics: the Vaughan ridings lack the massive Lib-shifting Chinese electorate evident in Markham & Richmond Hill)

Damn and blast. We’ll see though.

Speaking of the NDP, why do they do so well on Vancouver Island? Is there a particular demographic out there that they do well with across the country, but is in high concentration, or are they just a very left wing area?

What a colossal waste of time. The only thing that can redeem this is if REB somehow squeaks it out. Or that NDP candidate in Saskatoon West who looks like a kindly Pixar character.

CBC calls Calgary Skyview for the Liberals. Conservative are denied a clean sweep of the city and Liberals are back on the map in Alberta. Liberals are also leading in Edmonton Centre, but it remains too close to call.

Kind of amazing how similar the seat totals are looking to last time.

Ok Question time: Liberals look like they really gained with the Chinese - both Hong Kong and Mainland - vote which allowed him to get seats in new areas, some not won in 2015. There is one seemingly obvious thing one might obviously attribute this to: the same culture we saw in California's Vietnamese where you want stability in a crisis. Anything else one can think of? I'm no judge of whether the relationship with the homeland is positive or not, so people might like or disapprove of any hawkish moves.

East Asian voters seem to love unnecessarily harsh COVID restrictions.

Yeah, remember that we're dealing with something that's been racist-stereotyped as the "Wuhan Virus" or the "Kung Flu"--plus, don't forget how Toronto was an epicentre for the SARS crisis...

I frankly think the knifes will be out for everyone except Blanchet after tonight, cause they all are taking Ls. Different times of course though. Trudeau after a crisis he fumbles, O'Toole soon but he might survive, Singh should but he might not without any obvious stars to challenge, and Paul duh.

Singh should of course go, after two disastrous elections in a row now, but there is nothing NDP voters love more than losing while feeling superior about themselves, so they will of course keep him.

Do the Tories have anyone with charisma? O'Toole seems boring so while he does ok at reassuring voters he likely isn't the strongest possible leader. Of course Scheer and Harper weren't charismatic either.

It would feel very strange to keep O'Toole after a failure to gain any seats in spite of leading mid-campaign, while Scheer was knifed for insufficient gains.

Rona Ambrose, maybe, if she wants to come back. MacKay and Bernier, the last two leadership runner-ups, are both right out for different reasons, Leslyn Lewis is still way too inexperienced, and most of the 2017 candidates were right out for various reasons. If they decide a French leader is the way to go, Gerard Deltell feels like an obvious choice. Brad Wall and Christy Clark were both pretty successful provincial-level leaders.

There's no obvious name, but I also distinctly can't think of anyone who'd be better than Ambrose. Michelle Rempel is kind of like a younger version of Ambrose, so I guess maybe she'd work too.

Not really, plenty of Tory squeakers this time. In fact there are more squeakers, which may be why the CPC vote lead goes up despite going down in the safe seats - they closed the gap in good areas and won some seats, but lost many more.

Curious post coming from the most partisan Democrat on the site. Maybe game recognizes game.
