The whole thing should be repeal but I will support the amendment so it has a better chance of passing.

Will use my tie breaker if needed to stop this repeal.

The assault weapon ban was one of the centre pieces of progressive reform carried out by Labor, survived a challenge in court and other repeal efforts. I’d urge senators to put public health and common sense first and vote against this repeal.

I echo these sentiments

Anyways NAY on the amendment, it seems some people want to use this a cop out thinking that only legalizing some dangerous weapons somehow would make us safer. If people want to vote for this, they should vote for the whole thing, I'm not going to let people hide behind bad policy because they supported only marginally less bad policy. Make no mistake this amendment is just as dangerous as a full repeal, it only has the facade of being more safe, assault weapons are assault weapons and legalizing even a single one is an incredibly dangerous step.

What Muad'dib said. These are the most egregious parts of the original bill and, as WD has kindly pointed out, don’t even achieve their stated aim of banning “assault weapons”.

Aye.

The amendment has enough votes to pass. Senators have 24 hours to change their vote.

With eleven votes in favor, two opposed, and five members not voting, the amendment is adopted. Debate resumes.

Are we anticipating a presidential veto here?

I don’t think there’s too much more to be said on this; so I’ll motion for a final vote.

While being against the full repeal to protect our nation's children, I can see the common sense appeal of taking handguns and shotguns off the schedule to safeguard our right to bear arms. As a result, I'm voting Aye.

While being against the full repeal to protect our nation's children, I can see the common sense appeal of taking handguns and shotguns off the schedule to safeguard our 2nd amendment right. As a result, I'm voting Aye.

*Article 1 Section 7, but I'm not going to be too pedantic about it lmao, easy mistake
