Trump's first choice for VP in 2016 was US Senator from Iowa, Joni Ernst, but she turned down  the offer, but she later stated that she regretted her decision.

Probably not much different. Ernst is nothing special, really; the only reason she won comfortably twice is because Iowa's become a red state.

Minnesota would've flipped the first time and it might've been enough to keep Wisconsin the second time, but other than that it wouldn't of made a significant difference. Besides the Midwest factor which Pence produced in the first place, a lot more Trump voters voted for him and not Pence and I don't think it would've been different with Ernst as VP. Maybe they would've produced a lower share of the evangelical vote which might've been enough to narrowly put NC in the Dem column in 2020, but it wouldn't have had a dramatic effect overall.
