None of course; the words 'Ideal' and 'Politically' are by their very natures oxymorons. Politics is a challenge to the problems of reality.

In saying that the county I would stand out the least in would be somewhere in Upper New England. Perhaps whatever county Burlington, VT is in. But still American culture even in it's 'liberal' areas still strikes me as a very conformist one; and that is an issue that goes deeper than simple politics. (Which operates only on the simplest level of reality: simple arbitary power.)

Probably Alameda, California. Dane, Wisconsin and King, Washington would be up there too.

I lived in Alameda county for three years.  Nice climate.  Actually, for what it's worth, I found I vote more like a californian than like a typical resident of any other state I lived in.  Before living in California I lived in Boston for five years and in the Dallas/Fort Worth area for five years.  Since living in California I have lived in Columbus, Mississippi, in New York City, and in Cedar Falls, Iowa.  And Alameda County was the only place where the majority of voters on the Yes/No questions voted with me a majority of the time.  That never happened in Massachusetts, Texas, or anywhere else.  But in California, I'd often be five out of six, or sometimes even six out of six, in my side winning the yes/no questions.  Not the offices, mind you.  My guys were usually third-party or unaffiliated guys, so of course they never won.  But on the questions I was in the majority a majority of the time.  So I guess I'd have to admit that by at least that criterion Alameda County is more ideal for me (politically) than anywhere else I've lived.

I'm surprised how people vote for Alameda so much. Alameda has a relatively large number of conservatives. I would imagine ncliberal and BRTD would pick Marin county... the only really renound liberal cities in Alameda are probably Oakland, Berkeley, San Leandro, San Lorenzo, and some of the wealthier areas like Castro Valley. But Pleasenton, San Ramon, Livermore, and even Hayward are quite conservative.

My ideal county is probably Tulare county, CA. But where would I like to live? Somewhere around the DC area in Virginia. So probably Fairfax.

old thread but i found it in a search.  i would not even come close to saying any part of alameda county is "quite conservative".  even those suburban towns you listed.  maybe compared to the rest of the bay area they are conservative.  the county voted 79 percent for obama and every single town and city in the county voted against proposition 8, the ban on same-sex marriage, except for union city.

I was born in Middlesex County, Massachusetts. It's actually my favorite county too, if we were to remove that last word from the topic of course. I've no idea what my ideal county is politically though.

Probably somewhere in Western PA or the Upper Midwest. A place where there are a lot of small town pro-life/pro-gun folks that are union-friendly, anti-war, and economically very left leaning all around.

Any ideas anyone?

Oh man, that's too hard.  I'd guess somewhere in the Pacific Northwest or New England.

Places in northern Minnesota like Lake, Koochiching and St. Louis (minus Duluth which is just your typical urban liberals) counties apply.

Alameda seems fine. Noted socialist Ron Dellums is the Mayor of Oakland.

NIK, i know southern alameda is not overwhelmingly liberal and although it may be the most conservative part of alameda county, i still would not call it conservative.  i agree south alameda county votes however the wind blows specifically cities like pleasanton and livermore but congressional district 9 (berkeley and oakland) overpowers however southern alameda county votes.  mccain only received 7 percent of the vote in oakland and not even 5 percent of the vote in berkeley.

I don't get why those counties are the "ideal counties" (from a political perspective!) of Libertas.

Not entirely sure, maybe Essex or Middlesex County? Maybe Delaware or Suffolk County? Tough choice.
