I'm fine with Letang back to the Pens.  Malkin is meh to me and we'd have a lot more cap space without him, so buh bye, if no reasonable deal can get done.

Jeff Carter at 2C is not ideal. We probably won't land Kadri.

Since Malkin is testing free agency, the Pens need to just use that money and forget about Malkin.  Hextall can't let that money just sit there hoping Malkin might change his mind.  Good bye, Geno.

Okay, Malkin is back, but does it really push us to the next level?  No.

Because your team is aging super fast, letting Malkin go would have been smarter.

Indeed.  What we are lacking now is goaltending depth.  When Big Ding Dominque is your playoff goalie, you're in trouble.

Unless they could have replaced him with a younger star forward, it's smart to keep him. They need to keep goinf for a cup or tear it all down, not some middle ground. With Crosby and Letang still playing well, tearing it all down doesn't seem like a reasonable option... yet.

We're trading Marino for a forward soon... probably Marino for Garland or Marino + Kapanen/Bluger + 1st for J.T. Miller.

Matthew Tkachuk will either be signed and traded (more likely), sign a one year deal with Calgary so he can go to free agency next summer (less likely), or sign long term with Calgary (unlikely). This will be done before the Calgary-Tkachuk RFA contract arbitration hearing. There is no date set yet, but the latest possible date is in 16 days (Thursday August 11).

Teams that may (or may not) have interest in Tkachuk (that he would also possibly want to sign long term with) include St. Louis, Nashville, Ottawa, New Jersey, Boston, NY Islanders, Anaheim, Chicago.

Chatter on possible Matt Tkachuk to St Louis trade from Blues fans :

- Calgary probably wants Jake Neighbours included
- Calgary could ask for Robert Thomas but Blues say no
- Calgary could ask for Jordan Kyrou. Fanbase divided on Blues willingness to trade Kyrou
- Blues likely want to trade Tarasenko and additional assets for Tkachuk
- Tarasenko won't waive no trade clause for Calgary but CGY could immediately trade him to third team
