You all made your picks well before they were due- good for you! Now that you have your presidential ticket set, we can move on to filling out our cabinets.

Remember that for all picks, the following rules apply:
1. You cannot pick any individual who has already been drafted.
2. The intent is to make a cabinet for some time during the 2010s. So, all picks must have held one of the following offices or positions at some point during that decade: president, vice-president, senator, governor, congressman, mayor, cabinet official, or CEO/president/director of some kind of legitimate institution, such as a business, a Federal Reserve bank, a university, a think tank, or something of that sort. Even if your pick passed away during or after the 2010s (such as John McCain or John Lewis or Kay Hagan), it's still legal.
3. You cannot draft someone to a position that they held in real life. For example, you cannot pick Rex Tillerson to be your Secretary of State, but you can pick him to be your Secretary of Energy.

As I said in the proposal, I'm dividing the U.S. into four regions, and your pick has to come from your assigned region, which will rotate each turn. For the purposes of the game, our regions are:

A. The Northeast (ME, NH, VT, CT, MA, RI, NY, NJ, PA, DE, MD, VA, DC)
B. The South (NC, SC, GA, FL, AL, MS, LA, AR, TN, KY, WV, TX, OK) + Territories
C. The Midwest (OH, IN, IL, MI, WI, MN, IA, MO, ND, SD, KS, NE)
D. The West (CA, OR, WA, AK, HI, NV, AZ, NM, ID, MT, CO, WY, UT).

I put all the participants' names into Random.org, and for Turn 1 of our cabinet draft,

NY Express, RGM2609, Ishan, and Senator OBD need to pick from somewhere in the Northeast.
The Fonz, KaiserDave, and OldSchoolRepublican need to pick from the South.
BaptistaMinola, Clinton/Kaine voter, and Our Enemy the Irish will pick from the Midwest.
and UtahNeoLib, Beesley, and myself will pick from the West.

Next turn, we'll rotate so that the first group will pick from the South, the second group from the Midwest, and so on. There's 15 cabinet spots to fill. We'll rotate through the regions three times for twelve total picks, and we'll have a free-for-all for that three turns, and you can pick more or less whoever you want.

You do not need to pick cabinet offices in order. You can pick Secretary of State this first round, or Secretary of Transportation, or any of the 15 official cabinet-level offices. Remember that you will need to pick a...

1. Secretary of State
2. Secretary of the Treasury
3. Secretary of Defense
4. Attorney General
5. Secretary of the Interior
6. Secretary of Agriculture
7. Secretary of Commerce
8. Secretary of Labor
9. Secretary of Health and Human Services
10. Secretary of Housing and Urban Development
11. Secretary of Transportation
12. Secretary of Energy
13. Secretary of Education
14. Secretary of Veterans' Affairs
15. Secretary of Homeland Security

To help you keep track of who is off the board, I've started a google sheet at: https://docs.google.com/spreadsheets/d/1lKijLTH6JqoAZlPlzOJ1dn0DP-vM7PswwmdgpE57jCU/edit?usp=sharing.

You'll have 48 hours to make your first cabinet selection.

I知 down. Would appreciate reminder pms though.

I was going to correct you two, but...Fetterman works on the grounds that he was mayor of Braddock; Yang was CEO of a startup during the 2010s so he's valid too.

Yang for Secretary of Commerce then

Secretary of Transportation: FAA Administrator Michael Huerta (2011-2018)

We're in some sketchy territory here-- he was technically a cabinet member as Acting Secretary of Transportation, but also technically not the (official) Secretary of Transportation, permitting him to fill that role in our exercise. I'll allow it, but this pick is cutting it really close in terms of following the rules!

I put myself in the South as I assume that would be the next slot.

If we can add EPA Administrator, I'd put Al Gore there. If not put him as Secretary of Energy.

Unfortunately, Gore is not eligible, since this is limited to office holders of the 2010s. Would you like to pick someone else?

Fair point- but he痴 a sedevacantist, and doesn稚 recognize that JPII, who made that rule, was ever the legitimate pope.

Time for Round 2 of your cabinet draft.

Remember that for all picks, the following rules apply:
1. You cannot pick any individual who has already been drafted.

3. You cannot draft someone to a position that they held in real life. For example, you cannot pick Rex Tillerson to be your Secretary of State, but you can pick him to be your Secretary of Energy.

For the second round:

UtahNeoLib, Beesley, and myself will pick from the Northeast.
NY Express, RGM2609, Ishan, and Senator OBD will pick from the South.
The Fonz, KaiserDave, Gassman, and OldSchoolRepublican will pick from the Midwest.

You'll have 48 hours to make your second cabinet selection.

UtahLib and Gassman still need to make a round 1 selection, but that's okay! I tried to design this so that you could miss a round or two when life gets in the way, and jump back in. Just make a valid round 1 pick when you can.

Also- let me know if you prefer not to get a notification when a new round starts.

Richard Cordray for Secretary of the Treasury

Sorry Kaiser- but while I really like the pick of Cordray at Treasury, he didn稚 hold any of the required offices to be eligible for this project. Would you care to pick a different Midwesterner for the cabinet?

Richard Cordray for Secretary of the Treasury

I think there's a case for some discretion here - if anything it makes more sense than allowing John Fetterman as you did earlier. Perhaps a compromise would be to allow one free for all (re job, not location of course).

That痴 fine. Adjudicating who is and who isn稚 a valid pick is more complicated than I thought. And I don稚 want to discourage people from participating with my legalism. We値l allow Cordray and going forward you can pick anyone from your assigned region who was an active public figure in the 2010s. If anyone wants to redo an earlier pick now, you can.

Time for Round 3 of your cabinet draft.

Remember that for all picks, the following rules apply:
1. You cannot pick any individual who has already been drafted.
2. The intent is to make a cabinet for some time during the 2010s. As per our new rules put in place to avoid nitpicking, you can pick anyone who was a substantive public figure in the 2010s.

As I stated earlier, if you want to "redo" one of your first two picks in light of these new rules, you may do so.

For the third round:

BattistaMinola, Clinton/Kaine Voter, and Our Enemy the Irish will pick from the Northeast.
UtahNeoLib, Beesley, and myself will pick from the South.
NY Express, RGM2609, Ishan, and Senator OBD will pick from the Midwest.

Former Vice President Al Gore for energy, I think his climate activism, should make him count as a major individual, if he doesn't work, then my backup is former West Virginia Senator Jay Rockefeller for HHS.

Gore, under the new guidelines, is certainly a credible public figure in the 2010s. My only worry is that Gassman had drafted him and I vetoed it when the earlier rules were in place. I値l pencil Gore in for you, but if Gassman wants to claim him to replace an earlier pick, we値l go with your second choice. Sound fair?
