HOW CENTRISM IS THE GOP'S PATH GOING FORWARD

Following last night's disastrous showing for Republicans- where Democrats knocked off nearly half their members in the House and gained several Senate seats with a horrible map, in addition to picking up a record number of governorships- many have been wondering what (aside from a contreversial election, the repeal of a popular health care bill, a falling economy, a mismanaged pullout resulting in over one hundred citizens left behind in an enemy country, and the concealment) caused this.

In spite of the massive disaster for Republicans, one bright spot stood out. While Republicans were losing seats in Alabama Massachusetts Gov. Charlie Baker won re-election with almost 60% of the vote. Meanwhile, moderates in Maryland and New Hampshire almost stemmed the national tide and held on, despite being in some of the most liberal states in the country. Governor Baker has had a wildly successful tenure, with balanced budgets and low poverty.

The meaning is clear- this is the way forward is Republicans want to win.

PRESIDENT TRUMP BLAMES MCCONNELL, RYAN FOR MIDTERM DISASTER!

President Donald Trump took to Twitter this morning to blame Senate Minority Leader Mitch McConnell and outgoing Speaker (whose district flipped) Paul Ryan for the unprecedented blue wave. McConnell is expected to be ousted, although many moderates like Jeff Flake and Dean Heller who voted for his removal after the Obamacare debacle have been replaced with Democrats, which while damaging to the President's agenda makes the caucus as a whole more conservative.

SPEAKER RYAN ANNOUNCES LAME-DUCK LEGISLATION!

Paul Ryan, the outgoing Speaker of the House, announced several lame-duck measures the House will consider before massive Democratic majorities take office in a month. These include:
-Border wall funding
-Nationwide Voter ID law
-Abolition of federal Medicaid subsidies

None are expected to pass the Senate.

December 19, 2018

HOUSE PASSES LEGISLATION!

The House of Representatives has voted 219-214 to pass an omnibus bill containing three proposed measures. Many Republicans voted against, and the bill almost failed.

January 3, 2018

NEW CONGRESS SWORN IN!

The 116th Congress was officially sworn in today, giving Democrats massive majorities in both houses. This doesn't change much, however, since most of the Republicans kicked out of office by Democrats were moderates, and the extreme ones like Rep. Marjorie Taylor-Greene now represent more of the party.

Interesting Ellison didn’t run for Minnesota AG in this timeline.  I guess Swanson decided not to run for Governor?  Why did Michaud get elected Maine governor and not Janet Mills?

Not sure why he’d do that when he has statewide ambitions but ok. What happened with Mills in Maine?

HOUSE OPENS IMPEACHMENT INVESTIGATION!

The U.S. House of Representatives has opened an impeachment investigation into President Donald Trump based off his incriminating phone call with Russian leader Vladimir Putin. The inquiries are supported by a 64% super-majority of the American populace, another worrying sign for a President holding a 29% approval rating.

MODERATE REPUBLICANS FORM SUPER-PAC!

Moderate Republicans like former Governors Phil Scott and Larry Hogan and current Governor Charlie Baker, along with dozens of other Republicans recently booted out of office, have formed a super-PAC to elect candidates 'who can win'. President Trump has blasted the group, which has already raised over $1,000,000, as 'sore losers' who lost because they weren't in support of his agenda.

GANTZ TO BECOME PM, NETANYAHU OUT!

Following Thursday's election results, Prime Minister Benjamin Netanyahu has been ousted from his post of Prime Minister after over a decade at the helm. General Benny Gantz has announced that he has formed a government with Meretz, Labor, and most of Hadash-Ta'al to kick out Netanyahu. This coalition is unstable, however, and may cause another election within the next few years.

List of Israeli Prime Ministers:
10. Benjamin Netanyahu (Likud): March 31, 2009-April 7, 2019
11. Benny Gantz (Blue & White): April 7, 2019-

DEMOCRATS ANNOUNCE PLAN TO EXPAND HEALTH INFRASTRUCTURE!

Democrats in both the House and the Senate have announced the Health Care Infrastructure Act of 2019. This will spend over $50 Billion to expand medical facilities and public health infrastructure, in addition to granting more subsidies to states with a Medicaid expansion. Republicans have railed against the proposal, citing the immense cost and saying that the funds should be spent on the planned rural infrastructure bill, which was passed in exchange for the urban infrastructure plan last year. That plan has already created thousands of jobs and cleaned up several cities, with poor cities like Detroit seeing hundreds of construction sites spring up.

FOX NEWS ANALYSIS OF WHERE HEALTH CARE PLAN MONEY GOES!

KIRSTEN GILLIBRAND RUNNING FOR PRESIDENT Sad !

New York Senator Kirsten Gillibrand, noted for running behind Gov. Kathy Hochul by over twenty-five points and throwing an innocent colleague under the bus, has announced her campaign for President. She is the first major Democrat to announce, as it is thought Democratic leadership is trying to reduce the number of entrants into the race to make it easier to beat President Trump.

HOUSE PASSES MEDICAL INFRASTRUCTURE BILL!

The United State House of Representatives has voted 289-147 to advance the $50B Health Care Infrastructure Act of 2019 to the Senate. To avoid a Presidential veto or Senate filibuster, increased funding for states with Medicaid expansions was scrapped. The legislation still disproportionately benefits blue states.
