W. decides to extend the blame to Pakistan for sheltering and supporting terrorists right after 9/11.. along with Afghanistan. He also makes the argument that Pakistan is to unstable to possess it's arsenal of WMDs.

What happens now? Does India also get involved?

Would be very interested to learn the plans and logistics behind invading a nuclear power from a military person. Bin Laden may be captured early on, but the occupation would go on anyway. I'm not sure strategists would want India to get involved in the occupation knowing the hostilities between the two countries, since it would probably escalate the ensuing insurgency. One interesting geopolitical outcome could be Sino-Indian rapprochement, actually- maybe even with an aim to counter American power in the region in the 2010s. Also, if Iraq still happens, the US' economic decline is more severe and recovery is more arduous with the stress of a third war on the budget. Expect more energy behind anti-establishment candidates and an even stronger and longer-lasting aversion to war.

I'll probably regret asking this, but why does W. decide to invade one U.S. ally (Pakistan), but not another (Saudi Arabia) over what was at most a peripheral involvement? Back in the Cold War, Pakistan had been a U.S. ally and India was marginally pro-Soviet.

Moreover, in response to an Indian test, Pakistan had conducted a nuclear test in 1998. Absent evidence of direct support of Al Qaeda by the Pakistani government, I just cannot see an American invasion of Pakistan being a plausible change of policy.
