https://www.monmouth.edu/polling-institute/documents/monmouthpoll_nj_081821.pdf/

Registered voters
Phil Murphy (D-inc) 52%
Jack Ciattarelli (R) 36%

Electorate model A
Phil Murphy (D-inc) 51%
Jack Ciattarelli (R) 40%

Electorate model B
Phil Murphy (D-inc) 55%
Jack Ciattarelli (R) 36%

They did more electorate models as well, but these numbers seem to represent the range of their results:

Quote
A range of potential electorate models* do not alter the current character of this race, with Murphy’s lead ranging from 11 points to 19 points depending on the scenario.

New Jersey didn’t really handle covid very well.

Bad economic fall and bad death rate

Is the GOP candidate bad?

This should be a closer rate imo

60% of voters don't have an opinion of Ciattarelli.

quite the contrary. Murphy has good ratings this whole time on COVID. They actually did handle it well, given the cirucumstances

It's certainly turned around at least. Republicans can point to the early pandemic here all they want to rationalize their current mismanagement like in Florida and Texas, but New Jersey is in the top ten states when it comes to immunization rates, I believe, and our residents are taking note of that as things are feeling fairly normal again here.

Yep, given the nice summer weather, NJ *could've* been another Florida mess. But people have gotten their vaccine and are still masking in some situations/places, which all helps.

Our summer has not been all that "nice" though. More heat, humidity, thunderstorms, and even tornadoes than usual.

Christie poisoned the NJGOP brand

2025 or 2029 should be the year for them---Ryan Peters, Kean Jr., Jen Beck could all run

New Jersey got utterly blasted by the initial wave of COVID with more than half their deaths for the pandemic by the end of May last year.  By comparison, Mississippi and Alabama didn't even have 10% of their deaths by the end of May but are still managing to catch up with NJ in deaths per capita.

I know what you meant. I just took advantage of an opportunity to complain about the chaotic weather we've had this year.

New Jersey has been stuck in that D+14 - D+16 range for quite a while now, and it looks like it's going to stay that way.

Ciattarelli needs to update the Whitman 1993/Christie 2009 playbook, and he needs to campaign aggressively in Bergen, Atlantic, Union, Camden, Burlington and Middlesex counties...
