Who would you vote for if there was a race today between Hillary Clinton and John McCain? That is, who do you consider better, and who would you be more inclined to generally support?

Or let's put it specifically. Let's say in the 2008 presidential election Hillary Clinton wins the Democratic nomination and John McCain gets the GOP nomination. Who would you support? (Clinton picks Evan Bayh as her running mate, hoping to win IN, while McCain chooses Palin.)

Who's a better person?
Who would you generally support?
Whose policies would you support more?
Who would you vote for in the 2008 scenario described above?

McCain is the better person, Id generally support McCain, Id support his policies more and id vote for him though the VP choice wouldnt make it as enthusiastic as I would otherwise.

McCain would get destroyed though and with this map:

Of course I'd want McCain to win, although one term where Clinton fails and then a Republican gets elected in '12 might be better than the inevitable 2010 midterm bloodbath if he's elected. I think he gets destroyed in a map similar to the above one, possibly with NC or WV. "It's the economy stupid" has way more effect when the person proposing to fix it is named 'Clinton'.

Clinton/Bayh (D) 52.5% 361 EV
McCain/Palin (R) 45.9% 177 EV

Clinton performs roughly the same as Obama, holds onto Indiana narrowly due to her selection of Evan Bayh as her running mate, and also carries Missouri. North Carolina narrowly goes to McCain. Clinton was never going to win Arkansas in 2008 though it would have been closer than against Trump in 2016.

Who's a better person?
I'm not gonna get into that. Both have their attributes and their drawbacks. Depressingly this would be an election between two candidates who voted for the 2002 authorization to use force against Iraq. I wouldn't have been terribly enthusiastic.

Who would you generally support?
I would have voted Clinton because eight years of Bush had been a disaster but I wouldn't have voted with as much enthusiasm as I did for Obama at the time.

Whose policies would you support more?
Isn't this just the same question as above with different wording? Clinton's - though I'd have preferred a different Democratic nominee.

Who would you vote for in the 2008 scenario described above?
Clinton but like I said, not with much enthusiasm.

How did you make this map? I would have voted 3rd party in this scenario.

I'd back Clinton, who'd win by roughly the same amount as Obama did, give or take a state. I'll also add that I honestly believe the country would be better off today if Clinton was elected in 2008 instead of Obama, and that's whether Clinton is a one term President or a two term President.

Probably Clinton but would've regretted it after a couple of years probably.

Would this map probably be too generous to Clinton?

Running mates are Evan Bayh for Clinton and Sarah Palin for McCain.

I'm skeptical of Clinton winning Appalachia, but let's say Clinton manages to pull it off, this is what it would probably look like. I kept West Virginia due to opposition to Bill's coal regulations, but she would've done better than Obama. She might've been able to win North Carolina and Georgia in a good year, but Bill failed to win North Carolina and Obama had better AA and liberal appeal than Hillary did, which might've lead to a decrease in turnout, leading Hillary to lose the state, as Bill did.

Seems about right with the exception of Colorado and North Carolina.

Senator Hillary Clinton (D-NY) / Senator Evan Bayh (D-IN) - 361 EVs, 52.7%
Senator John McCain (R-AZ) / Governor Sarah Palin (R-AK) - 177 EVs, 45.2%

B-but you're an Illinois Democrat! How could you back Clinton over your own senator?

Technically, Clinton grew up in rural Illinois, but then she moved to Arkansas and then New York. Obama, on the other hand, was born in Hawaii (not Africa, like Trump insisted in 2011) and grew up in Hawaii and Indonesia.
